ECS's boards SUCK! truly. I've had 3 of thier boards and they all had serious troubles. lots of driver issues, and problems with the bios settings getting stored, etc. ASUS is the way to go.

  3. PC Game ports are easy on Will Next-Gen Consoles Kill Off PC Gaming? · · Score: 1

PC is the easiest game platform to develop for, so game companies can just do a port... there are enough PC owners that there will always be some market. Also, Microsoft has made it so xbox games can use the exact same libraries as PC games, so making PC versions of xbox games can nearly be as simple as compiling the same code for the PC platform.

one of the reasons I now use Firefox as my primary browser is because so many exploits were found in IE. So even if Microsoft doesn't respond when exploits are found, these exploits do cause some people to look for more secure alternatives.

  9. Easy on Building Scaleable Middleware for MMORPGs · · Score: 1

god, a real problem finally. I've been doing so much html and asp i miss something more substantial like this. i could solve this, i know it. The real issue here is data -- how do you access it, and how do you store it. The fact is that you could get an in memory object oriented database to keep track of it all. 4gb memory would be enough to support a ton of players. What you do is keep a "DNA strand" for each player with a bunch of binary toggles to control state. Forget "manager" and all that crap that overcomplicates the solution.

  11. perfect information on BudNet Tracks Your Suds · · Score: 1, Informative

perfect information is one of the basic economic principles, so not letting BUD know about your buying behavior is like opposing free trade; it creates market inefficiencies that ultimately lead to waste and products not accurately suited for the market. The key issue, is that if this information is at the expense of privacy, BUD is essentially taking a valuable consumer asset without reimbursement or consent. This raises moral and ethical issues that should be put into public debate before this practice is widespread.

  13. Rebel G (not k1000) on Best 35mm SLR Camera for Beginners? · · Score: 0

Do not get the Pentax k1000. This is the classic beginner's camera, but it's not very satisfying to use. The Rebel G from Canon is a MUCH better camera that gives you all the control that you would want. And even the cheap lenses from Canon are good. I especially recommend the Canon 28-80 zoom. This is a cheap, but very good lense. With this lense and a Rebel G, you will have a serious camera that you will like to use instead of the clunky and outdated k1000.
