    Yes but at that time she would have had money and a goal to work towards. Now that she lost everything all she can shoot for is a little attention.

    Of course your biggest power drain will be from the computer that is always on reading the meter.

    I can see it now, a 1kw rig with 4 geforce cards, 32 monitor, 800 watt stereo, lit up like the sun with ever light and fan this side of new egg... all just to read the power meter.

    I think the cell technology is going to see most of it's play in consumer electronics and laptops. As if it were ever going to enter the PC market in any major fashion it should of done so long ago. And as Ageia has learned it's hard to introduce a new class of add in cards.

    And the whole burn-in thing makes me completely put off plasma altogether.

    Yeah because as CRT's have shown that problem will never be resolved, and besides staring at a dead pixel in the center of your screen.. Well it's just the bees knees! And further more this jump to wide screen really irks me, as my 19" CRT 1280x1024 (1310720) has more pixels then my 19" LCD wide screen 1440x900 (1296000).

    Where are SSDs "capturing mindshare" anywhere other than the portable market?

    Anyone who cares about the performance of the parts in their computers has been thinking of SSDs for some time now, and in a positive light. The same "mindshare" that WD Raptor's built will eventually turnover to one SSD or another.

    I've never had too many problems with seagate, and consider them to be a great brand. I also like western digital, but when I have a choice, I go seagate for the 5 year warranty.

    I've always disciplined myself with the thought, "It's not a matter of if a drive is going to fail, but when...". But oddly enough I have had tremendous success with long term hard disc usage. In fact Maxtor is the only brand that's failed thus far. 7 years of usage was pretty good tho!

    On a more serious note, I read something in Maximum PC this month that there are thermal reliability issues with perpendicular storage technology? Does this mean that all perpendicular drives are less reliable?

    Is it? You'd end up with many people who would come to rely on that 'job' and what do you do when you run out of tasks, knowing the government, an already inefficient method of using workers would become a giant money sink as they try and find more tasks and labor. And how would this prepare someone for any career other than the modern equivalent of ditch digging? What of professionals? Are they expected to devote their time and energy to work in exchange for food and or money?

    i used to know a guy who lived exactly like that, never really had to goto school. never really had to get a job... all he needed was a mediocre computer with an optical mouse to work on its arm. we were the only ones that would ever clean it, maybe quarterly, cuz lets face it there were obviously no rules there and thats a good thing to have when your a teenager.

    True enough, but it's not so bad you can't live with it... except that lower "notification bar" that never stays hidden. It simply returns to spew more FUD, like did you know that nearly 80% of all websites kill a kitten when you visit with out a spyware blocker?

    Since when did civil disobedience go out of style? If it's a ridiculous policy or situation you should absolutely make it as hard as possible for the person or entity you disagree on policy with. Of course you should remain calm and collected... and try and exhaust more efficient avenues first.

    There's a concept in software called 'focus' combine that with your tab key and I think you will be amazed how far you can go without a mouse. And I swear there is a way to enable arrow key control in Windows...

    RadioShack used to fire employees that didn't offer every customer a cell phone AND a sat dish.

    I had a conversation with a RS store manager here in Idaho, bout a year ago. He was quite frank that the stores in this area make the majority of their profits from cell sales.

    Last time I was in best buy I had to argue with the salesmen trying to tell me the 100 dollar TOSlink would perform better then the cheapest one in town. I could care less but he was pushing this onto my father in law who doesn't know a RJ22 from cat5e. It was a minor win, he still went with a stereo system so far beyond his needs we're over there once a week fixing something cuz that accidentally switched the input to HDMI2 and have no clue what that even means... This is after we got the 100 dollar logitech remote to have "one button play" for music or movies. Fuck those little best buy floor crawlers, they have no concept what people really need or even a modest understanding of the products they are trying to sell.
