Can't find any 64's in my collection or in the service manuals with 6502s, and my boards go back to '83 - but the VIC-20s have 'em and so do most Commodore disk drives
Out here in beautiful drought-stricken Colorado it is but a short drive from Eagle County airport to the Beaver Creek Ski area. Home to the famous Beaver Liquors. Yeah, off topic and immaterial but beats the heck out of exit 69 and Big beaver and you can tilt a few while you're gettin it sorted out.
Well, I have never bought anything online, don't know what the internet is, and don't own a computer. The state didn't provide anything that contributed to the non-sale.
Taken to the limit this line of reasoning dictates the size of TV, type of sound system, and kind of room necessary for viewing. Then we get into the brand of popcorn and the Coke or Pepsi issues........
A little online research got the following: Studio time including mixdown for mixing $30.00 per hr or $300.00 per song. Figure 12 songs just for grins =$3600.00 Provide master for you to do your own mixdowns add $100.00 CD pressing in quantities over 5000 is about $.20 ea. Now add in the speculation for a total. Who gives a damn?
Go to a retailer and buy a CD by, say, the Doors called, say, The Doors, because you have to update your music library again. Lets make the assumption that all the LP promotion, studio time, extra musicians, production, legal stuff, artwork, and all the rest of the overhead were paid for in the first couple of years - hell, give it 4 or 5. But, it sure seems there was at least one hit on the album so I suspect it was sooner. Now let's assume in the next 25 years or so that releases on 8 tracks, cassettes, and additional LP sales made the band and the record company a few bucks. Any LOGICAL explanation why this CD costs within a buck or two of the new releases? HELL NO, WE'RE NOT GETTIN SCREWED. That doesn't even begin to describe it. If it takes 30 year old music to support today's artists then maybe some of these people shouldn't be recording. I bought that album for about 6 bucks when it came out. Damsure didn't cost an additional 10 to press and ship CD.
Well, at least we have some good information coming out of this forum. Having lived a sheltered life, I always figured that tires and tyres were the same thing and somebody was just using king's english to be funny. It would now appear that there are significant differences in that most new tires in the U.S. come with a 40,000 to 60,000 mile warranty whereas tyres are only good for 15,000 miles.
Could you just imagine the problems we would be encountering if we had tyre dumps fill of these chips instead of tire dumps full? Some poor cop driving by could concieveably suffer serious information overload. Another good point - with the problems they've been having would Firestone want to install these. Imagine the problems if people had tire ID readers and wouldn't car pool with a Firestone equipped car or Johnny's mom wouldn't let him ride to little league.....
With tyres we could conceiveably be on the hook for larger potential fines. If they ever get to be considered hazardous waste the guy who took that $3.00 disposal fee when you got new tyres just dumped them instead of registering them into the national tyre disposal database and using a federally approved tyre disposal site. You now have 4 times the potential fine. Finally, I'd need two sets of tyres a year on that gas guzzling SUV I drive and it would be like "change the tyres and see if it needs gas" No, better they stick to putting chips in tires and leave the tyre issue alone. Can you imagine the stigma at the country club if you showed up in your #50,000 SUV and had a cheap set of Peerless tyres show up on a scanner instead of a $1100 set of Michelins.
And they say we Americans just stick our heads in the sand (or somewhere else) and look for oil.
And how many of you guys crying about wasted resources replaced a working computer just cause it was a few jiggahertz slower, or a working printer or monitor. There's so much of this crap now they're shipping it back overseas to get rid of it. GET A DAMN LIFE
Last time I needed 4 wheel drive was last time I was in a snow storm in the mountains west of Denver. Pulled some asshole in a Suburu out of the ditch too. I've been using 4 wheel drive vehicles off and on for 35 years. Fact of the matter is I can drive most places without it, but I see NO reason to get out in -25 or -30 degree weather with a 30 MPH wind to put chains on and don't intend to start. You want something to bitch about? There's plenty of kids going to bed hungry most nights.
I really don't see the diffrence between most lower end SUVs and a 4 wheel drive pickup truck with a camper shell - except its warmer for the passengers.
I guess what goes around comes around. These marketing genius types killed digital audio tape back when all most people did was copy compilations of their own stuff and borrow a couple from friends.
But really - who the hell cares if the crap getting pushed now sells or not. Probably the only way some of it gets ANY distribution is piracy. Looks to me like P2P is probably doing them a favor.
I see rumors that they're talking about re-releasing their catalogues in yet another format - some kind of "better CD". Absolutely NO question that the industry is counting on the old stuff to prop up their current poor efforts. (and you wondered why that copyright thing was an issue) I'm busy stocking up on $50.00 CD burners that will play anything and keeping back a machine or two with IDE interfaces. I'm NOT buying the stuff I like in another format. I own some of it in 3 or 4 already.
Talk about 9 lives. The web site is back up at
http://www.dcnv.com/. Doesn't do crap, but hey, look what it did before. Things are indeed looking up for re-incarnation. Worms - yeah, some of THEM follow your ass around too.
They tax it when you make it, they tax it when you spend it, they tax you to live in your house, they tax your phone line, cable and cell phone. Why the hell should internet sales be exempt. Might as well just give it all to the basta**s and get in line to eat 3 times a day and to get a place to sleep.
EX-SQUEZE ME?! Yeah it's hydrogen but it's not as dangerous as the tank of gas in your car?? The article makes reference to a 10,000 PSI "tank" for this stuff. Wanna get your jollies - just knock the neck off any full compressed gas bottle and see what happens. Waddya mean the thing can't fly?
The DCMA is getting to be a real issue. Did you see anything in the LICENSE that says when you plunked down your hard earned money for this printer you didn't actually buy it but are just being allowed to use it? This looks just like the CueCat crap that went on a while back. Yeah, you own it but here's a book full of rules on what you can't do with it. Some of the cartridges have chips that actually calculate use and prevent refilling - courtesy of a formerly consumer oriented company that made great test equipment.
Me, I've dug out the old Star printers I had stored and use them unless I need real good color. I bought a batch of ribbons reasonable-defined as a package of 6 that will last about 3 years for about half the cost of a black cartdidge. They're re-inkable and last forever. I can tolerate a little noise and a little extra time. My cost per sheet is little more than the paper. I've been using some of these printers since I downloaded stuff off Q-Link. When I do need an inkjet printed job and run out of ink I break out another new printer. I buy old models at closeout for about the cost of a set of refills. If I have a printer I like I buy sale printers with the same cartridges. Finally, other than original copies I maintain for legal purposes, almost every other copy is a.pdf.
Yeah, I'm rambling but this stuff is really pissing me off and I'm doing everything I can to avoid supporting the people who encourage it. I used to have 100% HP stuff and now have ony printers, used rarely.
Hey, with the seller supposedly removing some key parts prior to sale, it looks just like some of the other stuff on E-bay that really moves.
"For sale. Motherboard and hard drive we picked up off freeway. Only saw two trucks hit the computer we removed them from. Reserve set at a reasonable amount. Shipping $25.00. No guarantee, no returns."
OK. So i hit the wrong button!!! Anyway, beg to differ. Researching the Colorado website shows that the state will go after telemarketers with 3 violations and access a $5000 fine. Individuals are entitled to pursue small claims judgements at $500 per incident. The telemarketers have to buy the list, and you can sign up by phone or on line. List is updated quarterly and TMs have 30 days after the list goes out to stop call to numbers on the list. Original legislation left out cell phones but that is being addressed this session. Looks to me like a good model and boy has it been quiet.

Oh yeah, and the only tires I've ever had "go off" were on a tire changer. I can't speak for what happens with tyres.

Gees. What is tat. Where do you get it, and how do you trade it for the other thing?
Thin I saw somethin' anout this on an old Twilight Zone rerun last week....Old Roddy Boy had a heck of a crystal ball he used to pick his stories.
