    It's also very difficult to know how much Democrats are getting from billionaires like George Soros, most of his money flows through 527 groups that are designed to hide where the money comes from.

    Did Aereo try to negotiate contracts that allowed them to redistribute content? Otherwise they were not trying to operate as a cable company, they were trying to make money off someone else's product without paying for it.

    Yea, it's not clear from the linked articles if you contributing more means the site gets more, or whether you get to visit more sites ad free before your contribution runs out.

    Plus, a site would have to disable all advertising in order to make it worthwhile. Getting rid of half the ads and replacing them with other annoyances won't fly

    Mostly correct. Republicans voted it down because this is a lame duck Congress and everyone knows the bill was just a PR stunt. Next session the Republicans will agree on a bill that will pass both the House and the Senate (unlike this one which was DOA).

    His prediction that there will be a big increase in solar installations is based on what will be happening to subsidies in the next few years (he expects a rush to install as much as possible before the programs expire). In other words, the actual cost of solar won't really reach price parity - what he's really saying is that manufacturers of small scale solar power generators might see a short lived boom in the near term.

    The problem in countries you mention isn't buying modern seeds. The problem is that the market for agricultural products is controlled by a few well connected cartels who keep farm prices artificially low; if those farmers could sell at a fair price they would be doing fine with the larger crops.

    Facebook may be coming out with an office version to take on LinkedIn

    If they keep it at that level it might have a chance - generic communication related to your professional life, separate from your personal life.

    That said, I don't know how any enterprise besides recruiting firms could embrace LinkedIn. It's just a big resume posting site for headhunters to mine.

    Yes, there was. The behaviors didn't just "emerge", they're coded into the robot.

    The design of Philae was fine, it would have had enough power if the landing had gone as planned. The main thing they need to look at is why the attachment mechanism didn't work; fix that and there's no need for an RTG.

    Probably because they're not sure the technology they have will get there. This sounds like an upgrade of the existing Blue Gene computer.

    These systems will use IBM Power CPUs and Nvidia's Volta GPU, the name of a chip still in development.

    I don't think the state of AI will be anywhere near human thought for a long time. But dealing with huge sets of data containing many, many variables is a reasonable application for "Machine Learning". Although I kind of wonder why a conventional statistical analysis wouldn't have revealed the major factors. Anyone who has served in the military would know that an older, more intelligent enlistee probably has other issues (else why are they where they are?).

    Some of the factors associated with higher risk were expected, like previous suicide attempts, a history of using weapons and symptoms of severe traumatic brain injury, such as hearing loss. Others were less so, like a higher I.Q., and being older than 26 at enlistment.
