'I would love to hear some real figures from SOE about subscription levels. We have not in a loooong time, and this leads me to believe that they do NOT in fact, have very impressive numbers.'
I agree. If SOE had impressive subscription rates, they would be shouting about it from the rooftops.
Mod tools coming 'very, very soon'? Gearbox has actually been saying that since *before* Halo PC was released, so I'll take this with a pinch of salt and see it another attempt to get some attention for a dead title.
Kinda doubt that we will see a full-blown sequel to NWN, at least one that is developed by Bio. The first NWN was 5 years in development and Bio has said several times on their forums that they are not working on a sequel. They are actually moving *away* from D&D and the Realms and working on games using their own IP.
I guess it's possible that it could be done by someone else, but how long would it take and would it include the Aurora Toolset? I'm not holding my breat here.
I think Gabe's (from PA) theory that 'normal person + anonymity + audience = Total Fuckwad' has a point.
Creating a cheat enabled server probably wouldn't solve anything, but how about servers that eliminate anonymity? Where you have to log in using some form of real world identification (like a credit card)? Everyone would be playing as themselves and not 'N00bSlAyEr_666' or whatever and I think that would drastically cut down on cheating.
Creating a cheat-server would not work, because all they (the cheaters, griefers, etc) are interested in is ruining the game for *normal* players.
People have been trying to run FPS-servers for newbies for years now, creating a place where newbies can get to grips with the game and not get massacred over and over on regular servers. It rarely works, though, because a lot of griefers enjoy joining these servers and rack up tons of easy frags and humiliating the newbs.
"Futher, if the main point of playing is merely to enjoy the game, does it really matter if you occasionally run into people who are very good at the game?"
It does matter. I don't care about competing with the elite players. I just want to have some fun and it simply is no fun to join a game and constantly go BOOM, respawn, BOOM, respawn, BOOM, respawn, etc. Practice more? It's a *game*, not a fucking sport. I have played FPS games since Doom and I just don't seem to get any better than this.
Well, I agree that it wasn't the best of articles. The childish comments (Wind Wanker) hurt it more than anything else. Still, there are some valid points in there.
Me, I have grown up with Nintendo and gone through the Famicom, the Super Famicom, the N64, the Cube and a handful of GameBoy's. It's difficult to pinpoint, but despite the lovely visuals of the current Nintendo titles, there is something missing. Something that was there before, when Nintendo was the unchallenged king of the videogame world, but started to fade away when the competition got serious. I find it difficult to really get involved with their games these days. Mario Sunshine bored me within hours. I was stunned by the looks of Zelda, but lost interest after a couple of days. On the Super Famicom, I was obsessed with Mario and Zelda (and many others), looking for secrets, discussing the games with friends, etc. There is just something lukewarm and uninspired with the current (and recent) titles. Maybe Miyamoto-san is being spread too thin, I don't know, but something is missing and I want it back.
BTW, it is pointless to stick your tongue out at the competition (Sony, Microsoft) and pretend that all they produce is crap. The point is that their products sell and Nintendo have been back-pedalling ever since Sony got serious about videogames. Sony are about too enter the handheld market and we all know that Microsoft wont be far behind. They will tear marketshare chunks out of the GameBoy and Nintendo will be on the retreat once again, while stubbornly claiming that everything is fine and business is great...
Something better change.
'...as it estimates its first year of sales will garner $35 million in revenue.'
Lol, unlikely, but what are they gonna say?

"However, it's still very much a game for roleplayers and those with dreams of moisture farming."
I'm sorry, but I never saw anyone who even attempted to roleplay during my stint in SWG. I eventually quit out of mindcrushing boredom, nothing else.
First post. Yay and stuff.

The Matrix MMORPG has DOA written all over it, but surely embedding AOL in it is the Kiss of Death. RIP
Myst fans? FFS...
What would we do without them, eh?

Who knew the Vietnam war had such entertainment potential? Movies, books, TV shows, video games, etc.
I wonder how it will be before someone tries to copyright a war.

"He cites the lack of focus of conglomerates and aversion to risk-taking on original brands..." Original brands? Duke Nukem Forever..?

A good idea in theory, I suppose, but let's see how long it will be before the unlocked version of the game pops up on Kazaa...
