Comcast does this. They used to provide all the basic digital signals in clearQAM so my four clearQAM devices could access them. Then one day they simply shut them off. I get the must-carries in digital with those devices now. Just the must-carries.
Bastards.
No big loss. Those extended basic channels were pretty crappy standard def feeds over digital anyway. They want you to pay even more to get the quality HD feeds of the same channels.
Another example of the "benefit" of a union are US conference venues where if you take a box of t-shirts to the loading dock and union staff has to take it to your booth, their process is to put it on a pallet and drive it with a forklift and charge you hundreds for it.
While unions in past history were about protecting workers, today they are just another corporation looking to make a buck.
Blu-ray isn't selling well because it's too high priced. I can get brand new DVDs for $5 at Wal Mart, the cheapest Blu-rays are four times that, and new releases are twice what a new DVD release is -- for a piece of plastic!
And many of those cheaper bluray discs don't even contain an HD file. They are using the same standard def mpeg2 file they put on the regular DVDs.
Yes these dramatic measures generally are a symptom of bad IT.
If you have an administrator that's always saving the day, 9 out of 10 times you should fire them. You'll find out that most of the looming disasters that were happening will stop happening. A white knight can't justify their existance if there is no peril.
Or the management who won't budget for the equipment needed for proper uptime?
I'm sad to say that I, as a die-hard AIX/Linux/Mac fanboi have had to recommend migrating healthcare applications to Windows servers, and testing with Windows clients. This is because the healthcare organisations who will look after the applications in three years time at the end of the project, will not have the skills, enthusiasm or experience to run anything that isn't Windows.
This is the same healthcare industry that is moving to iPads?
Do you know that your great-grandparents, or their parents, probably had that many kids, right? That the 2 child household is a very recent development?
This project isn't forked to create a better version, though, it's forked so that it doesn't depend on a gang of absolute scumbags.
You are implying that Novell and Redhat are saints? They are still profit driven corporations.
Granted, Star Office, both program and company, were bought by Sun, but a lot of the work was done well before Sun stepped in and bought it.
OOo was a complete re-write by Sun as the original StarOffice code had questionable ownership issues and couldn't be open sourced.
No fee in Finland. I find it quite strange that an organization could charge a person for leaving it.
Cults are like that.
red hair - is being ginger also wrong?
They are red due to being in league with the devil.
Your laptop can feel? What does it feel?
It despises it's dirty fingered owner.
Of course they want me to pay more money, but for THEIR DVR that they control and own, instead of letting me do with the signal what I want.
I completely agree.
Amusingly, nearly all of the channels in question are available for free with an antenna in wonderful, never been re-encoded 720p/1080i HD.
The parent is talking about Extended Basic channels like CNN, FX, Comedy Central, etc which are not broadcast over the air.

I had a cablecard installed in my Tivo Premiere within days of calling Verizon with no hassle at all.
You are very lucky. Many people have nothing but headaches trying to get cablecard to work.
Except that Mac OS X isn't funded by the US military. I'm not an Apple fan, but their motives are all up front: they want your money.
You think the Military works for free? They want your money too.
and that if Microsoft + Adobe happens, then what will happen to Photoshop and other Adobe based products on the Mac platforms?
They'll continue to suck as they have for the past decade.
this has put them at a disadvantage with the Amazon-owned site.
That explains why the site has been getting so "design" heavy it is almost unusable. It can only be viewed with flash and javascript blocking.
So what's the point? Blame (ban?) the Segway?
At least don't ride prototypes near a cliff.
Why is parent modded as Troll?

We've got three XBox 360s in the house, and we buy a lot more Bluray movies than we do XBox games.
You are insanely rich and enjoy throwing away money.
But before we jump on that bandwagon, let's not forget practical limitations. A Bluray holds 50 gigabytes of data.
The actual movie file on a bluray is only a fraction of that.
We have Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in Windows support.
More like Fozzy Bear with a Windows certification from city college.

That would be Jelly Belly of course.

How the hell is Powerpoint the killer app?
The MBAs at Sun Microsystems would e-mail all of their communications in attached Powerpoint files.
Look at Sun's success today. It's a killer app alright.
Not as long as Microsoft and Apple still exists. Google will just be 3rd place.
Microsoft cornered the phone market with the Kin.
>>19 Kids and Counting, etc is disgusting.
Do you know that your great-grandparents, or their parents, probably had that many kids, right? That the 2 child household is a very recent development?
Most of them died off at an early age.
Bipartisan support? What's that?
When the corporations has bribed all the politicians equally.
