There are plenty of people in the US that don't have cars. They're mostly city folk. When I visit my brother in Philadelphia, I see a layer of dust on all the cars in the lot where I park, mostly for disuse.
If you can live in a place where you don't need a car, good for you. The whole world is not urbanized, and there is a need for cars.
It could be my player, but I do this regularly and though it usually works, certain discs don't allow me to do this. Usually I just press the forward button to bypass this, but it's annoying if there are a number of previews, also.
Research done at American universities is often a way to subsidize the research and development for pharm companies (most of them are European) by using American tax dollars. The American public is really sensitive about this cost. Whenever I try to mention how government funding for stem cell research is actually corporate wellfare to the richest, most profitable industry, people ususally retort that if it'll improve their quality of life in the long run, they don't care.
Most agreements for residential ISPs that I've seen have clauses that prevent you from reselling their services. It would be interesting to see what they would do if they found out that you were doing that.
The genocides during the crusades were done because God ordered the 12 tribes of Israel to kill off everyone in the promised land, down to the suckling babe. If they didn't, God promised that they would eventually be defeated and driven off their land. The crusaders were re-enacting this genocide that occurred in scripture.
I think the opposite is true. Our country is going wrong because our corporations try so hard to do well, they don't care who they have to hurt to gain their profit.
I have a better idea. Have the US goverment block all internet access. In order to open up internet access, a user has to mail me a check for $100, after which I will allow them to connect to the net. Only adults can afford to pay, so no kids would see porn.
They can't. All they know is that the searches were done on the dead husband's computer. I don't have a link, this was reported in my local paper the Star Ledger.
Why should anyone want Dell to install Linux on the system? Most people that want Linux will install it themselves. What I'd like to see is the option for NO OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLED with the cost of the Microsoft license removed from the pricing. A desktop without an operating system for only $5-10 less than one installed with XP or Vista is a joke. It's even worse when the same system costs more with the Microsoft OS installed.
The option should exist on all systems to remove the operating system, and the discount given for that option should be transparent. There's no reason it can't be done considering the flexibility of customizing that Dell already offers.
Part of the reason Windows is insecure is you can't do anything without being an admin. It's not like it even supports a model whereby you install the software into your own location. Every piece of software expects to be able to write registries, replace system DLLs, and generally crap into a few common folders. Isn't this the fault of the application rather than the operating system? I suppose Microsoft could do better to discourage this type of behavior from developers.
DRM will lose out once customers finally realize how much they are being screwed by the big houses. I hear this all the time, and I can honestly say if this ever happens, I might shit my pants.
I really enjoy the Ask Slashdot questions that are yes/no.

Most drivers I see speed regularly. Your assumption is clearly false.
Your link's message sounds like damage control PR to me.
You mean there's no X-mas in '08?!
How is this different from most companies? They exist to make money. Helping out consumers is usually means to an end.

This is a bad argument against it. The RIAA hasn't been able to prove their case against people putting even the minimal amount of resistance.

Umm... that system you linked to is $669. Maybe they've changed it after you linked it to make you look foolish!
Right on brother. To think, when cops first started carrrying guns, the idea of a standing army during peace time was controversial.

This is offtopic, but are those sigs for real? Looks like something out of 1984.
Plus the money spent on the video iPod = $250
I don't think any distro plays DIVX out of the box, Windows included.
Use Yamipod. There's an option within the program to copy a song from your library to your computer. I use it all the time.
Didn't PS1 games come on muliple dics?
