On linux/home/[you] is where all of your settings are saved (for you logged in as [you])
In many systems it is the only area that is writeable for you as a normal user (not running in admin mode)
For KNOPPIX - this means that all your settings will be carried around with you - But not all of your hardware condiguration - So you will be booting into 'your' desktop everywhere you go
Apple-OS (Any flavor) rocks because apple knows what they will be working with down to the last transistor - Other-OS is generally made to work on a wide range of machines - This is why windows 95 was so awful - bad device support
I started that a couple of years ago - Like most people I would watch a few hours a day - Mainly when I went to bed - Would sit with the TV on for while - Sometimes even fall asleep with it on - Just for the company you know?
Then I thought: Why? - And stopped watching TV in the slightest - Suddenly I had so much more time - And did so much more with it - TV sucks your soul
You can get quality at a lower price - Apple do make money - And I cannot blame them for this - It does seem a shame though that their prices are a few hundered £/$ above what most people will pay
These are beautiful and wonderful machines - and with OSX - A nice to use and attractive gui - With a BSD core - You can do anything with these machines
Shame about the prices being so high but you are paying for the quality
By default windows should have security built in for stuff like that
"Sorry: To delete these files you require an administrator password"
People might not like it - Heck - I would not like it - Windows is hella easy to do stuff with due to the lack of the system knowing what is good for it - But it might help windows and it's reputation
I major in electronics - I do realise this - I realise that people in general do not want to run computers from their car - Though it would be a great thing to keep the kids happy
The only driver use would be for accessing multimap.com or similar - but for that you would need wireless access and to stop the car (most people have problems touch typing - I would dread to think what typing one handed whilst driving would look like)
Ala IE?
Last time I checked IE did everything you listed and more
<quote>I've been trying to make 73 crash by hiding, in the last few minutes to no avail.</quote>
Thanks for that - I have the most wonderfully funny picture of a mac-geek hiding from his computer
"......"
*jumps up*
"BOO"
*safari crashes*
Which race plays the thief?
Stop whineing and start WINEing
Hey can you link me to the second website...
You forget concrete and asphalt
Both major stores of CO2
Food for thought eh?
I think the idea of slashdot - less than 'News That Matters' is news that we might find cool
Sure - Most people here use CRT with a decent set of speakers
But this is a kinda nifty idea - And I don't know about you but I get a nice little glow when I learn about some new geeky toy
I would like to use a freeBSD live CD - If anything it gives me the sneer power of "oh - you use LINUX? - How cute"
*grin*

All I need now is a supported stick
I connect mine using 10m of flat audio cable - under the carpets - nobody has noticed it yet
Just nip into radio-shack and buy the cable - the ends you need - and solder it yourself
Techsheep? - What makes you so special?
[He has done something no other actor has done before - Not on this scale - I think he deserves note for it]
He acted and the animation followed him - As did his facial expressions - Watch a 'making of' video and you will get it
He did do a lot of work and special work at that

Apple on i386 = not so good
This is something that bugs me from the *nix community
Sure he could google for shells - But does that give him end user opinions in an interactive format?
No
That is why he asks - To find out what YOU think

Vice City is coming out on the PC mid 2003 - I wait with baited breath

Windows XP supports 64bit (You need a special version I belive)
And Longhorn will no doubt have 64bit support
What I want to see is applications supporting 64bit dual operations
Well.....games but - You know what I mean
Why should they have to set it up properly?

After using windows machines for most of my computing life I do not know this - within 10 minutes of using *nix I knew
Different strokes
It is the CLI of unix that gets people every time - there is no way to explain that it is generally easier to do stuff through a cli
ifconfig for example - I can rememeber the ifconfig line for any computer on my network and have it in and done in seconds
But in windows it takes a few minutes just to click click click
I have the same 'feature' as both parent posters
It has been useful a few times in life - though I have never experienced it till the point of pain
I think he might be planning a car-mod - with a screen in his dash/back of seats
