Yeah, kinda like that guy from "Laberia, Africa"? Heh. I get 2 emails a day trying to get me to help some guy smuggle money out of africa because of some coup in some freaky government.

Oh, and Linux doesn't charge you for upgrades. Can you say Win98? Nothing more than Win95 with an expanded filesystem and a few rinky dink addons? That should have been a simple free download not a much trumpeted "Upgrade".

Well, I consider a production machine to be one that is vitally important to the business; for instance, a server that handles important business transactions - a machine that if it goes down then there is an instant loss of revenue. A machine that other machines are dependant upon for day to day business operation.

Under this definition, a user machine designed for web maintenance wouldn't be a production machine - nor would a graphical design machine. Such a machine going down could "Potentially" cost money but not necessarily profit by the minute.

Anyway, I think the driver loader is a good idea and should help with the misperception that you might not be able to get the latest geewizbang gadget available in a non-microsoft OS.

True... in general. However, in Windows, drivers are usually minidrivers (not the actress). What you have is a kernel stub for a major subsystem like block I/O - this stub contains alot of basic functionality that would be duplicated in discreet monolithic drivers - then the minidriver that attaches to the stub provides differentiation for a particular device (it is more a layer than a minidriver really).

Now, in another OS should it not be possible to create the stub and load minidrivers attached to it? Then you would have the functionality of the foreign driver.

For may own part, I think it's a brilliant idea though one that should be rather obvious. Furthermore, I would NEVER RUN THIS FOREIGN DRIVERLOADER ON A PRODUCTION MACHINE! :)

I agree. And, anyway, by the time your processor gets burned out, it will be devalued to near zero by obsolesence. Now, I'd have to say that a processor under full load will draw more current than one under idle load. Such billable amounts would be hard to measure though.

The current drain and mechanical breakdown for hard drives is much more probable.
