  1. Re:The Crypto course with Prof Boneh on Coursera: Dozens of Free, Massive, and Open Online Courses · · Score: 2

I'm taking the same course. I'm probably spending 10-15 hours a week, and that's a challenge as like many I have a full time job, family, house and other responsibilities. The material is challenging and the class moves at a quick pace. Boneh is an excellent teacher which really does make a difference.

Apparently a contractor was doing work driving pilings into the river bed near one of the bridges, and in the process they damaged the roof of one of the tunnels where it went under the river. Chicago's system had been largely abandoned, but it still connected into subbasements of buildings all over downtown. It shut down downtown for days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Flood

I get DSl via AT&T who subcontracts email to Yahoo...who plasters my browser page with ads. I use the web email to check my email at work, and don't want my browser page plastered with ads that don't reflect the professionalism my workplace environment expects. Since I'm paying for this content anyway, Yahoo can bite me if they think I'm going to view their ads, too.

  14. Warranty on Can Apple + AT&T Shut Down iPhone Unlockers? · · Score: 3, Interesting

Since unlocking involves some soldering and such, at least according to the account I've heard, clearly it violates the warranty. And don't forget, the iPhone has a soldered in battery; you're supposed to send the phone in after a year to take care of the battery. So, if it breaks or the battery dies, your unlocked iPhone is a very expensive paper-weight.

  15. Re:Power Productions on CA Solar Use Falling Because of Economics · · Score: 1

Yes. Electricity usage is higher at predictable times of the day, i.e. when people are working and using a lot of electricity for air conditioning. This forces the power company to use less efficient power plants, or buy electricity from other regions to meet the peak demand.

I agree. Maybe they've had 160,000 registrations at their web site over the years, but how many of them are still developing for the Palm? How many of them were duplicate registrations, when someone forgot their old reg info? I haven't developed anything for the Palm in at least four years, and have no future plans to do so. Frankly, it's a small market for anything other than the general apps that come with the OS, and users want shareware/cheapware.
