I think your talking about this and there is a solution. Basically, you have to turn off the "Show Tabs on Flash and Java" option and your video will once again work properly.
Yea, that's why I was considering MySQL in the first place; it's just used in sooo many projects. However, as you noted that is changing and PostgreSQL is coming on strong. I'm repackaging Bugzilla as a appliance and since it supports both DBMSs I'm free to use it with my database of choice.:)
I was wavering between MySQL and PostgreSQL but this has made my mind up. Since my company builds server appliances containing FOSS, this hits kinda close to home.:) Consider me an official PostgreSQL supporter from now on!
[rant]I would be much more happy with AIX if they included a recent version of GD. As it stands, the version available for AIX 5.3 is so old it doesn't even have GIF support, and that makes a bunch of applications angry. Bugzilla for one doesn't like the version of GD that's available on AIX. I even tried compiling it myself, but ran into really weird font errors. Grrrr....sometimes I don't like AIX. [/rant]
Yes, but since Apple put it under the GPL to begin with, they can also dual license it. In other words, if you license something as GPL you can still go out and do whatever you want with it. Examples include MySQL & Ghostscript.
But, if we could develop and deploy our own apps, how long will it be before someone builds a widget to fetch music from you iTunes install back home? Remember, we're in the broadband speed access age now.
I purchased a Danger Hiptop (T-Mobile Sidekick) back in the day because I needed (wanted!) a real web browser and Internet ability (SSH, chat, etc.) Also because they said you could develop Java apps for it. Well, the Java development didn't really work out (you can't install your own software. Grrr) but the Internet connectivity did. And I loved it.
I then upgraded to the Sidekick II - color screen, better radio, speakerphone, etc. and all was right with the world. However, I got tired of still not being able to develop my own software and being left out of all the other goodies that are not provided by T-Mobile (i.e. Google Maps). I was reasonably happy with T-Mobile but didn't like the fact that they controlled the system with an iron fist.
Finally, my patience has been rewarded! The Apple iPhone looks like the answer to all my hopes and dreams for a mobile device. I used to have, and love, a Newton MessagePad 120 but it fell down the stairs one day and broke. I think this will be the ultimate mobile device and I am saving my pennies right now to purchase one. And just for the record, I don't think a $350 premium over an 8GB iPod Nano is too much to ask for all the functionality this thing brings to the table.
My only question is: will we be able to develop software for it? And if so, will we be able to install our own stuff? I really would like to be able to SSH into my work machines, but they are behind a VPN. Can I install a proxy and get to them? What about just plain old SSH access? Hell, can I run OS X's Terminal app on it?
Just took a quick read of the patent and it looks like this is a pretty wide reaching patent. Anything that maps a database to an object is covered by this one. Does this mean Ruby on Rails is under the gun? Of course, they have no money (I guess) so they wouldn't be a target. But they would still be violating a patent and that could limit their future growth potential.
This is really low - wait until your software gets in heavy rotation and then go after people using it. My question is why did they go after RedHat/JBoss? Why not go after the big dogs; Oracle (TopLink), BEA (Kodo), and even the JCP (EJB JPA)?
I Googled around for some stuff on BlueBridge and found out that they had a couple of PDFs lying around. It looks like some stuff from earlier projects, one being a Subway sandwich shop web site to order custom made subs. Anyway, just thought you might be interested.
WOW! That's great news! I'm off to check and see if I have overlooked something. My view of Apple was changing for the worse with this little problem. It was *very* embarrassing being told that my PDF was incomplete.:(
Thanx! I hope your right - or that it only works in Tiger (I'm on Panther) so that I'll *have* to upgrade!:)
Just to clarify: any OS X program that can print can produce PDF files.
Just to clarify more: OS X does not produce PDF files with embedded fonts. This means that you cannot *guarantee* that the recipient sees the same thing that you printed. This happend to me while sending a advertisement layout to a local newspaper.
Yes, but it does provide a feedback method wherein if you semd them the message that does not thread properly they will improve their code. I forget where I saw it, but it was in the help. Perhaps you could Google for it.:)
Ok, does anyone have a clue as to whether this phone will use normal HTML or will it require brain-dead WAP formating? I have a old Danger Hiptop and I *LOVE* the fact that it has a normal HTML browser built-in. It doesn't have Javascript, but I can live with that most of the time.
I am amazed that at this day and age more phones don't use HTML browsers. They have nice large color screens and plenty of horsepower - what's the problem here!?!? Why can't they include a real browser?!?!
Just a side note to anyone relying on OS X to output proper PDF files. It does not allow embedded fonts. This small oversight makes it *very* difficult to send output to print bureau. If your print contractor has different fonts or is missing fonts, you are SOL.:(
Just a side note about turning off the themeing in XP. It doesnt really work very well. I mean, yes you can make it look like 2000 on the surface but it screws up things like dialog boxes that expect to be Luna themed. I tried it when I first got XP but was forced to turn themes back on because of all the weirdness and not being able to click on certain buttons...
Right, so your saying that currently you can be questioned|arrested just for having burglar tools in your possession, and your OK with that?
Does that mean that if I use encryption I should be able to be questioned|arrested as well? I am a criminal for wanting to protect my privacy? What about if I lock the door on my house or don't want to let you search my car - well I *must* be hiding something!
Yes, you can blow right past your company's firewall/proxy! I usually cannot get to Azureus, but with Google Web Accelerator I can download to my hearts content.
Hmmmm...I wonder how long it will take before my company recognizes that I am no longer opening connections to multiple sites...:)
I always thought I could "see" annoying flicker on everyone else's monitor because of my early Amiga days. See, Amiga video is/was synced to TV refresh rates by default, that's why they made such good video editing systems.
It usually wasent too bad, but if you pumped up the resolution, to 200x400 or something crazy, the screen bounced around like it was on springs.:)

Yup, I re-compiled Perl with GCC and everything. Blech - I wish IBM would get their stuff straight! :/

"Surely you can't be serious!"
"I am serious. And don't call me Shirley"

Again, software patents are a bad idea.
Ok, so you were without an Internet connection. And what were you doing? Building web pages. :)
/.!

Quick! Transfer it to 8-track so it will be preserved forever!
Whew...that was close.
