Just a FYI. There is no planned offical CLR compiler for C++, just plain C. Also, you have the ability to write in your favorite managed language -- Managed-VB, Managed-C, Managed-Scheme, etc. Actually, Managed-VB has very little in common with VB beyond some simple syntax.
...when it's broken. At least on the Windows machine I can (fairly) easily reset *one* file type (shift-right-click). If the Mac ever gets a file type wrong, or I download a file that has a messed up creator tag, I have to go through hell to get it to work again. Open ResEdit (download it if I don't have it), look up the correct creator codes from an existing file, apply these codes and save the file. Now I can open the file. Sheesh. All I want is a simple way to choose which application should open a file. Is that too much to ask?:)
...or are these kinds of tests not worth the paper their written on? I really think it's funny when someone says to me "Yea, I just got my MCSE" and they think I'll be impressed. Usually, I just laugh and say something about knowing how to study to a test. In fact, when looking for a job I usually avoid the ones advertising for someone with one of these "degrees". I think real world experience is the only way to be good at this stuff. Sure, learning is never bad but I think these programs just put more unquallified people on the streets. This dillutes my marketability. I don't like that.
Now that I've said all that, I think there are/were some really good tests on the market. Cisco engineer and Netware engineer are/were some of the certs that I really respected. But, you don't see those much anymore. I guess it's because they are too hard to get.:)
Yea, I was going to say something about smoking. I tend to surf a little bit at work (slashdot:), but I think this is less than those smokers who seem to be outside *ALL* the time.
Anyway, I think that giving creative people an outlet is a good thing. Pin-Ball, Ping-Pong, Quake, always helps clear my mind and get me past that 2:00 after lunch drowsees. Now, if my employer only saw it that way I'd be set.:)
While I agree that this "threat" is hardly show-stopping, how long will it be before a real virus/trojan/worm targets Linux? All the focus on our favorite OS makes it a pretty big target. If I was a virus writer I would love to be the first one to crack Linux wide open. Wouldn't you?
I say that we all should go out and purchase this CD (or any other "protected" disk), try to play it on all CD audio players in your house/car/work/etc. If it fails on any one of them take it back to the store and demand a new, non broken disk or your money back. Repeat indefinitly(sp).
Check out JShock. It is a Java system for creating and displaying interactive web-based presentations similar to Shockwave. It's not exactly what you want, but it's free (and GPL'd I think).
My best friend lives about 10 miles away (not line of sight:( ) and he has a DSL connection. My parents live approx. between us. I need something wireless that would allow me to use his DSL line and we could use my parents house as a repeater.
So, does anyone know of any 5 mile, non line-of-sight, bridgeable, wireless solutions? Or am I asking too much?:)
Straight out of HHGTTG! However, I happen to agree with this train of thought. And by this measure, I would be the greatest politician of all time! :)

Ahem. Only about 40% of the .NET framework APIs have been submitted to the ECMA. We'll see if the other %60 make it and in what form. :)

Wow! What if you combined this with a Transmeta PDA! You could run for a year on one "charge" (or 6 hours with color :). Cool!

Georgi Guninski Security Research has some detailed info on the problems with IE executing .eml files. Go here for a small demo.
All you need now is DECnet. :)
Well, he posted to /. :)

Actually, you can use Aaliyah again. She's not using it anymore. :)
Bah, I know. Bad joke!

Yea, my DSL provider didn't go out of business and cable companies are beating a path to my door.

Mental note to self: Read the article first and then post.
Sorry!
what happens when you 'su -' to do something?
That's assuming you can even find an su amongst all the encrypted traffic.

That should probably be a jackpot that decreases on a daily basis.
