This is what I started doing (leaving it on at night), and it technically goes against our corporate IT policy, but no one has said anything - probably because they know why I do it. They do software pushes occasionally around 2:00 in the morning, but anymore it's just MS' Patch Tuesday stuff. I just make sure I reboot the next morning after patch Tuesday and wander down to the coffee shop during that time. Then again, I'm not clocked for my time, so I supposed my experiences aren't really relevant to this discussion.:)
The parent will probably get modded down, or just not modded at all, but I have to admit, that I never, EVER thought it was pronounced "Assrock". I always said "Ay Ess Rock". I see I have been wrong all this time - I guess you do learn something new every day.
Agreed. Finally I can have one calendar across 3 computers and my Blackberry. Truly a great app. You effectively use your Google Calendar as a "central repository", and sync all calendar items to/from that from each machine.
Interestingly enough, Verizon, long known for sticking with ancient OS revisions for their Blackberries, just released 4.5.0.77 for the Curve (not sure about other models) yesterday. Apparently, that's the latest official OS for the Curve from RIM anyway.
Also, the forums at Crackberry.com have a section for each phone, and I believe that there is a sticky in each that tells the latest official OS from RIM, along with instructions on how to update your phone to that version - whether your provider has released it or not. Very handy, I've been running 4.5 on my 8330 since the day I got it back in August, even though Verizon was only on 4.2 until yesterday.
It's a little disheartening how angry the ultra right-wing is about all this. They couldn't be more pissed about what happened last night, and a lot of them showed their true colors last night when they booed at Senator McCain's gracious speech, where he (along with Obama in his) tried to heal the divide in this country. That is the ONLY way we will successfully move forward.
The fact that 8 years of a Republican powerhouse has led us to where we are is apparent to everyone but the hardcore right, and so they take their aggression out on the people who have been clamoring for change. The "wild and unrestrained rhetoric from the left", I can assure you, was the only way to balance the wild and unrestrained spending and bombing from the right. The Republican party, as it stands today, can no longer use the mantra of "fiscal conservatives". Modern Republicans don't even seem to understand their own party's basic foundations anymore.
While I hope that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike can come together to try and solve the problems of our great nation, I fear that as the last few cards in the old house fall, the few of the old guard left are going to be more interested in pointing fingers and trying to shift blame, so sure they were right all along.
Is Barack Obama the messiah? No, that's ridiculous. Is he going to solve every problem? No, and I said that months ago, before I even decided to vote for him. I don't see how anyone, even with a Congressional and Senatorial majority (and we've seen how those presidencies go) can fix all these issues. Some of them, including the 1 TRILLION dollar debt, are going to take generations to fix. So sadly, I do believe that there is little hope that in terms of effectiveness, Barack Obama will be seen as anything more than mediocre, at best. In this day and age of people needing instant gratification, when the economic crisis isn't solve in a month or a year or one term, he'll be tarred and feathered, the right will crow triumphantly and say "See! We told you so!", the left will go back to worrying, wringing their hands, and running around like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off, and once again, ordinary tax-paying citizens (I'm not talking about you, Joe the Plumber, you just keep taking your family handouts and not paying your taxes) will get stuck with the check.
I was referring more to the whole # of pages, time taken to read, review, etc., but I realize the way I wrote it doesn't necessarily clarify that. My friend has a similar situation, he's an avid reader, and it was the only way to get a handle on what he owned.
They have the option to vote with machines, but the vast majority of balloting is old-school paper ballots (the "connect the head and tail of the arrow with a line" method).
A bit offtopic, but with the aforementioned "hack" to enable it as a more generic device, a friend of mine uses it to catalog his book, CD, and DVD collection. He has a whole spreadsheet for his books that tells him how many pages, how long it took to read, his overall "review" (couple of sentences) of the book, etc.
A bit anal retentive? Yes, but I could see it being useful for making a record of just about any "collection" you had that already had barcodes on it.
Agreed. I've been told, and have to take their word for it, that the Ribbon is great for people who aren't familiar with Office. For those of us who have been using it since the ~4.0 days, it's a little harder to get used to. Not that it doesn't have some nice features, but I can never find anything I'm looking for.
This is modded as "Funny", but the serious undertone is the same as the whole piracy argument. It only makes it more difficult for the legitimate customers.:-/
I haven't actually played Thief 3... I should get on that. Loved the first 2. I know that 3 goes in a bit of a different direction, but I figure it's worth trying anyway.
Bioshock had its startling moments, but didn't have the pervasive sense of paranoia that SS2 did. Nor has any game since then, IMO. A true classic. Think I'ma dig it out and play through it again...

Holy mother of Dog, my eyes!!! Enough with the scrolling text already, Joe!

Well, to be honest, if they're running 3.1, they ARE running DOS. :)
Heh, there weren't enough sides on the die to save from that one.

You owe me a new monitor + keyboard.
Which was cleaned up and simplified for this t-shirt - which I own. The sad but knowing nods I get when I wear it tell all.

LOL, Slashdotted!

It's a pun, and you've missed the joke.

Seriously. It's like these people never watched Alien, or something.
And those damned hybrid monkeys that would flip out from out of nowhere!

SILENCE THE DISCORD!!!

The backwards-whispering children ambient noises in Thief's "Return to the Cathedral" mission made the hair on my neck stand up.
