But the scary part is that Governments never admit to their incompetence, so this system will be used as if it actually works, people will be arrested and evidence will be found to convict those fingered by the system.
Then the system can be declared a success, since it can be demonstrated that it is catching the terrorists.

Agreed, and in what way would charging for a 30 second preview increase his sales? Accidental clicks perhaps?

    Maybe his plan is:

    1. Write/release some crappy music.
    2. Lobby and receive a payment for previews.
    3. Sit on the internet all day clicking on your song preview in iTunes.
    4. Profit!!!

It would be interesting to see the statistics of how many songs are previewed and how many are purchased with/without preview.
I'm sure Apple would collect these figures, so they would have a good idea how effective the preview is in clinching a sale.

  6. Re:Buying it Back on AU Goverment To Break Up Telstra; Filtering News · · Score: 2, Insightful

Agreed. The problem I had with the pseudo-privatisation of Telstra was that the infrastructure had been paid for by our taxes, but was being sold off with the company, giving Telstra a huge advantage in the marketplace. To me, the organisation should have been split into three independent units - (1) Mobile phone/data, (2) landline, internet and other services and (3) infrastructure. The last would become a govt authority which would take a cut from all the phone companies for using the infrastructure and in return build more/improved infrastructure by tendering out jobs. That way the infrastructure costs would not have been borne by the telcos, allowing them to come into the market cheaply and improve competition. The other parts of Telstra could then have been sold off to operate as private companies with no market advantage apart from their incumbency. This would have allowed them to operate in the marketplace without having the govt as a major shareholder and being forced to guarantee services including unprofitable ones.
    But it's too late now.

The FAQ or other pages don't seem to mention this. If so, the road would be annoying to drive on with these regular thump-thumps.
It also seems from the illustrations that the texturing would be regularly spaced circles - I hope not and assume this is for illustrative purposes only. Some sort of random pattern would be preferable to avoid harmonic noise.
