HP provide our desktops at work. Linux has been an option for ages. We just recently got quoted on 8.2 and this moved to 9.1 last week. They charge 149 euros for the pleasure, which seems to be the corporate editions price, which would fit.
I love OS X, but it's clear that with an absolute maximum 5% of computers able to run it it doesn't stand a chance in this particular headcount.
However I don't think OS X will lose any market share to Linux, for exactly this same reason. Only zealots will run Linux on PPC machines, and even then Apple still make money from the hardware to further develop OS X. Sorry guys but Apple really does have the best apps, and while they pour money into innovation, they always will. Until Linux stuff is designed by designers instead of engineers, it will always be the cheap mass produced alternative to OS X's luxury, and that won't come for free, designers make a living from their designs, not service/support.
......my first USB capable PC. It was around 1997(?) and it was almost as quick as the access to the hard drive in the same system. I remember there being precisely no devices enabled for it and I wondered what the hell it was for. Now I know, marketing FUD!

Listen to a Mac user who will slam someone who chooses windows because of availability of games, but they jump up and cheer when Apple uses a gaming chipset for the graphics cards in their new model
Why is this bad? Anyway, I'm just glad to be out of the perpetual upgrade cycle.:)

However, Apple should take a good hard look at what John Fraser accomplished. He made an upgradeable system (albeit a older, slower system) that could run OS X with a G4 processor. The people sure seemed to like it.
Interesting you should say that. I took one look at the dodgy kit on his shoddy looking website and bought an eMac instead. Same price, ten times sexier;)

There are no allegations of code theft against IBM. Their sole complaint is "Linux hackers suck, so the only way that Linux could compete against us is if IBM helped them."
I'm new to macs, starting with Jaguar. I picked up a mac magazine the other day which seemed to repeat a mantra of 'IE is the best IE is the best' which made me boggle. I used it for about 2 minutes, hated it and started looking for alternatives, and luckily I found safari pretty quickly. Camino is good too, but not quite as quick. Maybe I've been using OSS browsers for too long, but to me a better quality browser is more important than the ability to correctly render sites that adhere to Microsofts idea of html instead of the W3C's.
Or maybe he saw the Xbox as just another potential cheap platform for Lindows. Probably worth a little cash (he couldn't lose the way he arranged it as a prize). Ultimately it would kill itself, but in the meantime, it would be cheap hardware for a lot of people...
Because firewire is great for connecting to things like the iPod.
However, 4,200 RPM laptop Hard Drives are NOT suitable for doing heavy work with videos.
If the battery life of apple laptops is adversely affected by an attempt to stay in the pointless meggahurtz race. My iBook 800Mhz is more than quick enough for anything I want to do, and 4.5 hour battery life (on average, using Airport) is the reason I bought it (apart from OS X itself).

wtf?
SCO Unix is a pain in the ass to use and the sooner it dies the better. Never mind the companies attitude, SCO Unix sucks!
Didn't your mother ever teach you two wrongs don't make a right? ;)

The more I'll switch to alternative media. Modern music is overproduced and boring anyway.

By the same factor the Xbox only has 1 game, and the PS2 only has 2 ;)
If the 5th game ever came out after you KILLED THE PLATFORM.

Forget the terminal, OS X has a great IDE included with the OS. Now all you need are Objective C skillz :)
Rest assured the Mac version won't come with floppies ;)

Who on earth would render video or play games on an ultraportable laptop?
