Ah, good call. I should have stated more clearly-- According to ABC's Nightline, Israel airliners are thought to be equipped with a laser device that that can destroy an incoming missile. I was referring to the implementation of missile-destroying lasers on aircraft, not that particular laser. In fact it is supposedly a device that "jams" an incoming heat-seeking missile, essentially making it think it has hit it's target while still some distance away from the plane.
The Israeli government refuses to confirm or deny this allegation.
A similar report appeared on 60 minutes, although they refer to the laser-jamming concept and Israeli anti-rocket countermeasures in separate paragraphs:

I applaud scrutiny of anything written anywhere, doubly so on the internet. I should have been less vague in my original post.
Supposedly the Israeli Government put these in all the passenger planes in Israel. Israel refuses to comment either way but that is believed to be the case. And if that is true, then they believe in it enough...
This is being directed by the guy who did "Blade" (and incidentally NOT Blade 2).
However they've obviously Hollywood-ized it which isn't necessarily a bad thing but they've invented young handsome characters into the story-- that guy driving the automobile appears to be "Dorian Gray" and imbd.com lists another character as "Detective Tom Sawyer", which I find troubling...
That plaque has been there for ages, I just took it as fact. It's prominetly displayed on one of the busiest little thruways in Northern California-- "Sir Francis Drake Blvd". Wild!
hehe that's a very wry observation. Still, he's only part of the way through this anti-trust battle, and I think since he doesn't have a real OS to compete with, an OS made of straw will have to do. I too delight in this group's enthusiasm for a day when Microsoft does have competition, but I try not to let it color my judgment.
Why did this thread instantly jump to the conclusion it was over this infomercial issue? Tivo never caught on like wildfire, even though people like me have bought them for their parents and siblings knowing they'd love it like I did. But for whatever reasons it did not become the VCR replacement, and Tivo's stock price has always struggled.
Still, to know PVR is to love it. Tivo hasn't gone under, but for example on DirecTV it's no longer called Tivo, it's just part of your DirecTV service. The company did not flourish in one form and so it has taken on other forms. It appears that PVR's are accepted when they are part of a cable or satellite box, i.e., a built-in feature of something else.
So I put very little stock in this notion that an informercial brought down Tivo in the UK, when this closure falls right in line with the direction the company has been heading in.
You guys are suckers. He's not feeling *any* competition from open source. He now has to pretend he's got competition in order to keep the government off his back.
This whole rumor was based on a poorly translated press release that they were temporarily stopping production on Phantasy Star Online and their internet adapters while they built more capacity. The wrongly interpreted rumor has outlived the actual suspension of the online products by several weeks now.
Hey I worked at SEGA back in the day and we were NEVER Nintendo. We got lucky with Sonic the Hedgehog and the birth of Electronic Arts and 5 years later a 5 billion dollar company nearly went *poof*.
Services like Mailshell are great, because when you get spam from "realvideo @ myaddress.mailshell.com", you know exactly who spammed you and you can yell at them, and if you keep getting spam you can just throw away that disposable address.
It's a nice thought but unless you're willing to pay for tv commercial advertising, the video professor target audience won't see it.

The biggest thing to me is that he must be lumping all those numerous "security issues" in with this nonchalant bug category? For shame.

I'm sorry but "League" is one of the best things that Alan Moore has done.

He had access to all that information and the best he could do was get caught stealing 2000 bucks? Bwaaaahhh hahahaha...

"Dear Mr Barry why do you suck suck suck so much" AND "Dear Slashdot, WTF?????"
The Incredible Hulk and Terminator 3 will also be hyped today... (you have to click "on to the superbowl" to get past the nag screen ad)
