IIRC, destroyers use either 5in or 8in shells. These are incredibly heavy. A battleship used 16in shells. A friend of mine who served in Vietnam once told a story about a guy who called for fire, and somehow the request got relayed to a battleship. He said it was like having a VW Beetle come in overhead.
Any "memories" that appear to come from prior to that age are either a) purposely or inadvertantly implanted by a third party ("remember when..."),
Agreed. My phrase is "I remember remembering...". I've been told about certain incidents many times, and suspect that any memories I have of them are "implanted". My earliest memory that I know is "mine" is from about age 5.
I don't have any problem with the idea that bad plants may make CDs that don't comply with the specifications, either in "track widths" (size of pits, I guess) or track jitter. That may lead to errors reading the CDs.
Oh, I agree. What I thought was BS was the OP's assertion that they used narrow tracks to make "LP" style CDs.
has often been felt that long playing-time CDs (greatest-blah-album-ever type things) sound poor but the wisdom is that digits-is-digits. Until Studio Sound actually tested this assertion. Bugger me if it wasn't true. Something to do with narrow track widths,
Bullshit. It doesn't matter how long the audio portion is so long as it's less than 80 (or 74) minutes. The track is the same width, regardless, it simply doesn't go all the way to the outside portion of the disk.
This guy is just trying to sound like he knows what he's talking about.
But the point of a University education isn't to become familiar with a particular vendor's tools. That's what DeVry and ITT Tech are for. University is so you can learn how to learn to use any tool!
As a former employee of Litton, now a divison of Northrop Grumman, I wish to register a protest at you leaving them out. NOC is the second largest defense/aerospace contractor after LockMart.
I would like to send out a standard form letter to marketing@foolishcompany.com telling them that: a) I didn't even see their dumb ad so they wasted nomey on it; and b) I will now be avoiding their products because they employ dumb advertising tactics.
If you don't see it, then how will you know who to send it to?
When I worked for what is now part of the country's SECOND largest defense contractor, we found out that the division pres had donated *A* cow in the name of the division. Not a bunch of cows (for about 3K employees), but ONE FSCKING cow... Oh, and I got a card in the mail.
They've been advertising this for at least two weeks.

Yeah, but the version for the (original) SR-51 (the first programmable pocket calculator) was the ultimate.

2. Janeway, unfortunately
Macrocosm. Janeway as Ripley is one of my guilty pleasures.
What do you get when you multiply six by nine?
(Thereby proving that hyperintelligent pandimensional beings also known as white mice use base 13).

Sorry, but this sounds like bullshit to me.

<EMILY-LATELLA>
That's very different. Never mind.
</EMILY-LATELLA>
And yes, I know that "deliberately" is misspelled.
rassum-fassum-mumble-grumble bloody default "submit" button.
No, I was deliberatly making a "speling" error because it's /.
(Hey, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)

Get the Humanoid! Kill the Humanoid!
Nah. It's Monday. We love DVDs on Monday. On Tuesday, we hate CSS, Region Coding, and the MPAA.
So that's "Zero-Click Shopping"? To go along with One-Click and Two-Click?

In the single photon emitter case, how does the emitter know that there are two slits, or the geometry of the slits, etc?
Cramer came up with an explanation, the Transactional Interpretation. Gribbin gives a reasonably good explanation of it in "Schroedinger's Kittens".
