The Pope might want to raise the attention of idolatry: yes, the Internet can be an idol for some. And, the problem with the internet from the point of the Church is that a lot of people (see around here) are tempted to think that Church equals pedophilia.

Writing Free and Open Source Software is cool, especially if you attend high school now, but Computer Science/Engineering schools are not (just) about coding. How good are you in math? Other languages than C?

Did you see the courses MIT offers? Are those really the ones you would like to learn?

Back in 1998 I was working for a large German company. In their IT centre they had the motto: "never touch a working system". And they knew this for good reason: they had a mainframe that was doing its work since 1970. I guess it works still.

It's about knowing how to solve a problem independent of any language, and then using the language that best solves the problem.

I think, following Wittgenstein, that there's no such thing as thinking independent of a language. Ok, it's not necessarily an actual programming language but you think at least in pseudocode. And I bet this thinking tends to be thinking in a C-like language. Which does not help very much if you program in Prolog or ML. Even Java needs a different mindset. I'm afraid of those 'programmers' who are not biased to any language.

It's a people-focussed world. Your degree is a ticket. Make it relevent to your overall goals, but focus on the other special experiences university has to offer.

Well, it's true and I'm sad that my CS degree did not offer too much on social skills (I mean the degree, not the pubs nearby!) but I'm not quite sure that if you want to be a sales manager you should pursue a CS degree. I was _interested_ in math an even with that found the mass of "science" overwhelming. Now imagine one with less keen on formulae...
