The first question Sun asked me was "Are you comfortable working for tech support?". I just laughed at them and walked away. I am sure there are some good reason they would want interns to start there...but give me a break. Why go with Sun when there are 100 other companies that will give me practical experience in programming?

Really, that was my first bad impression of Sun. But when I entered the real world, and was doing a fresh install of Solaris...I discovered that they don't include a freaking compiler. How the hell can you be a unix OS and not include gcc? Maybe it's juvenile, but I swore off Sun at that point.

I really don't get your post. In general, it is true that competition in a capitalist society is a good thing. Maybe there is some example you can come up with where it is bad, but it certainly isn't the console market. Because of competition, you aren't paying $1000 for one console. If they weren't competing with each other, they wouldn't be selling their consoles at a loss (at least initially). This may be a strange concept to you, but no one is forcing people to buy all the consoles. You did the right thing by picking the console with the most games you wanted. Plenty of people can afford to have multiple consoles. That you can't or choose to spend your money on other things is fine, but you can't blame that on competition. You want a gaming monopoly? That's just dumb...then you couldn't afford to have both a console and a handheld. Or wouldn't be able to afford all the games they wanted.

Competition forces companies to reduce prices, increase quality, and basically bring consumers what they want because if they don't, people will buy the other console. Each console has its own upsides/downsides depending on dev kits, graphical capabilities, and deals it has with software companies. And yes, if there was one console, I can easily see a lot of great games not being made...they are a monopoly, so they would have a lot less motivation to put out a top notch dev kit and they would be sure to sqeeze every penny out of the developers that they can...certainly hurting smaller developers...everything would be EA. But if you want to claim competition is a bad thing because you can't play these games..go ahead, but you aren't going to win that argument with anyone with half a brain.

They are making a lot of good choices though (like signing Japanese game making companies to make games for them). I am looking forward to all of the next generation consoles. I am not going to buy any of them right when they come out though. Just like the PSP, I am going to give them time to mature and let the price drop. Really, there are still too many quality titles on the "older" gen systems that I need to compete before even thinking of what's next. Oh give me a break. I don't understand the pro-DS attitude around here. Do you think you are going to sway people to buy more DS's than PSPs by trying to justify its existence. If Nintendo did this or that, man, then the DS would rock. Please, it's only strong point is it can play SP games (which is a good and valid system). If it couldn't play SP games, then it would be near worthless with its lack of interesting titles. I have a SP, I am happy with it. I wouldn't get a DS because the touch pad just seems silly to me. Is it innovative? Sure...but just because something is innovative doesn't make it generally useful or good. It would be innovative if it shot out perfume when you passed flowers too, but who cares? The touch screen may find a couple of good titles, but will just be a novelty. There won't be touch pads on every controller from here on out...that's when you know when an innovation is good, when it becomes part of the standard. For example, the analog stick...now everyone has one on the controller. Or rumble packs to give it that little extra feel. You don't need a touch screen to make gaming good. The PSP has all that you need for a good gaming experience. An ample number of buttons, a bright crisp screen, and games that (arguably) make it worth buying.

If you want to compare two systems, compare the PSP to the GBA SP. There are plenty of advantages for Nintendo. Larger title base. Backwards compatible with older GB games. Longer battery life. Much cheaper. A sturdier unit better suited of people who drop things. But comparing the potential of the DS to the PSP is silly at best. The PSP already has better titles out than the DS...that's pretty sad. You said it yourself, the PSP will get more people developing games for their platform than Nintendo which leads to a much higher number of potential good games. I just don't see how slapping a touch screen in a system is going to give you more potential...sure, you have a chance for some different games...but not many are going to be able to take advantage of it effectively. You don't need a touch screen for good games...and from the looks of it, it is a lot easier to make flop games for it than anything else.

It still is going to require all of the tweaks it would have than it was on your HD. The big difference is now it will load slower (yes, it is still faster off the HD) and you have to hear the disc spin up everytime it needs to load something. Brilliant, why didn't any one think of this before?

Stop trying to make the PC in to a console...it's not one. Part of the reason people like PC gaming is because they have the control to make the game as pretty (or fast) as possible. The mouse/keyboard is far superior interface to a game pad for FPS any day of the week.

You exagerate the problem. Generally you don't need to update anything to play a PC game unless you are getting the next cutting edge game from ID. You don't have to check for background apps or anything stupid like that. The real problem sounds like you aren't very good with computers...which is fine, but it isn't such a big deal. And your solution to this problem of just making it so you can drop a game in the drive and start playing shows how little you understand the problem. Just stick with console gaming if that is what you desire. PC gaming is different, and those who want to will figure out how to get things to work easily.

Because you don't need those to have fun games. I am not sure where you get "substandard" for movie playing or MP3 playing. It is a gaming system that allows you to do those things as well.
