Yes, I understand that someone who makes more is supposed to pay more under this system, but they are taxed at the same rate. Except the very wealthy all have CPAs that know all the loopholes so that they can write off everything and pay at a lower rate. The poor don't have access to these sorts of things.

Also, 25% to someone who makes 10k a year means that they can't feed their family. 25% to someone who makes billions means...well, practically nothing since they can still afford everything they want.

You really have a disgustingly simplistic view on how this all works. I like to debate open minded people who actually want to learn something. I have a feeling you aren't one of those people though.

  6. Re:I think they'll get better eventually on Are Third-Party Wii Games Finally Coming Into Their Own? · · Score: 1

I think developers are still learning how to work with the Wii. Let's not forget that almost all of them were caught with their pants down (hell, even Nintendo didn't expect the success that they've enjoyed) when it came to having content ready for the Wii. At the system launch the only third party that had anything that could be considered a worth-while showing was Ubisoft, and most of those games weren't all that great in my opinion. Once Wii sales took off for the stratosphere, everyone wanted to get in on the action. The only problem is that a lot of teams had no experience working with the new control system, so this presented a learning curve. It would also take over a year in order to put out something fresh, so old games were ported over to the platform to cash in on its new found success. Now that developers have had time to see how much of a success the Wii has turned out to be along with becoming accustomed to working with the new controller, I think we'll start to see better games trickle out.

Except everyone was saying the same thing right when it came out...give it a year. And then the year after, and still now. It seems the Wii is repeating its Gamecube performance with an important change. Despite selling an overwhelming number of consoles this round, it still suffers from poor third party sales and poor third party quality. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep up their amazing sales. All of my friends with Wii's don't play them anymore (anecdotal evidence, I know). But I expect to see a lot more used Wiis up for grabs soon.

Do I think they have worked out the numbers? Hell yes I think they do. A company's number one goal is to make as much profit as possible...if removing DRM would do that, they would do that.

I am sorry, but you are entitled to pay for the work that you do. If other people take that work from you without paying you, then they are breaking the law and are morally in the wrong. Period. If you don't like the DRM, not sure if the game will be good, etc. just don't play the dang game. I don't know why this is such a hard concept.

I really don't care if you pirate the game...just stop acting like you are the one being moral and reasonable. You aren't.

You argument is just stupid. You blame people for pricing their products too high for theft. Find the optimal price point is certainly important, but you have a right to price what you create. I could live in an empty house because the more things I have in my house, the more likely people will break in and steal stuff. But that is not the way to live life. You can't expect and MMO to offer you a movie like experience where you are the hero and unique to everyone else. That is what single player is for. You are right. I was taking a more simplistic view of things. I honestly wasn't meaning to troll as I was modded. I suppose it is more complex than I was originally thinking. But at the same time, it seems extremely counter-intuitive to me. How do you prove the brain is infinite and not just really really large? I have never observed infinity, how can I prove it exists? It doesn't seem that infinity exists in nature. We believe the universe is finite, we have a concept of time, which seems to imply that things are finite. Infinity only exists mathematically. So to me, saying the brain is infinite seems impossible. It has to be finite because I don't know of anything that exists that is infinite.

In a way, it makes me think of Zeno's paradox. We keep moving half the distance closer to each other...half half half half half. We will never meet because we can split the distance in between us infinite times. But we all know we will still run in to each other.

I guess what I originally objected to was the idea that anything that whatever is the most complex of the time will be compared to our brain and always come up short. I think we are much more limited (despite being amazing).

I guess my question is...can something with X amount of intelligence create something that is greater than X amount of intelligence?

And in an absolute since, the brain IS finite because it breaks down eventually. So I think you can't say that it is infinite. Is it capable of coming up with infinite amount of ideas? Maybe, but I still don't know how you prove that it is infinity and not just a really large number.

On top of that, who really trusts the people who pirate the software not to stick malicious code in there?

The sad thing is you have someone doing exactly what people on here say a company should do to avoid piracy. Yet his game gets pirated. And you still have some messed up part of your brain that makes you attack him instead of the people who do not pay him for his work. If you want to actually discuss this subject like a grown up, you have to ditch this mentality that DRM only is bad for the paying customer. It just isn't true. It does reduce the amount a game is pirated. What we have to talk about is how to implement a scheme that inconveniences the user as little as possible and maybe even adds features to the game that are desirable (ala Steam).
