Meh, yeah, he went too far. But he is kinda right in the sense that I think Slashdot is going downhill. You can't come on Slashdot for an intelligent debate on games/consoles. This place is over run by Nintendo zealots at this point. Someone could list why they like the PSP and why they despite the DS and they would get modded down. Do the reverse, and you get modded up.

As an intelligent person with a degree, you should be able to step out of your semi-Nintendo fanboyism and see why he is frustrated. The guy basically said his opinion. He really likes the PSP, it has games he enjoys...so why is Slashdot constantly complaining. He doesn't like the DS because he finds the graphics jarring and doesn't find the games interesting. Of course, you can't say anything positive about the PSP and negative about the DS without everyone on here jumping all over you. You could do the reverse with Nintendo and get a bunch of "me toos!" and "I agree!" that all get modded up. Really, it is quite frustrating to be neutral here because everything has a heavy Nintendo/Apple/Linux slant. Fortunately, there is some sanity and good mods that know what they are doing and can mod up both sides of a debate...but that seems to be rarer these days.

Just make my cell phone work well at what it is supposed to do: make phone calls.

On top of that, it is only going to be under one wireless carrier. How is that good for the consumer?

I find all fanboys equally obnoxious. Nintendo fanboys on here are unbearable. Rather than making fun of "kiddy games" they put people down in different ways. They attack people who play "mature" games (to them this means that it just has blood and cursing...which means it isn't fun or innovative). They attack people who play FPS's. They call these people teens or not true gamers or frat boys. The fact of the matter is, if you find a game fun, play it...if anyone judges you based off of that, they are morons. The fact that they are getting to you just shows you are insecure about it.

Sony is just a company. The PS2 is a great console with plenty of games to play...it doesn't matter if they are third party or not. The reason the third parties went to the PS2 was because Nintendo treated third parties with garbage and refused to innovate (in the sense they would not move off of cartridges...now are they copying Sony's innovation? actually, they passed on the technology...so it is Nintendo's fault that Sony took off in a way). Nintendo is making more profit off of their customers than any other company. Nintendo fanboys brag about this fact...as if this is a good. Yeah, Nintendo makes cheaper hardware so they can profit off their fans more and this is viewed as a good thing by its fans (pretty amusing really, impressive marketing).

The fact is all these companies do evil things at times. Nintendo fanboys are just excited beacuse this round Nintendo isn't screwing up as much so they can rub it in other people's faces. Just as immature as the Sony fanboys before them. It's easier to just ignore all the crap and see there are three consoles that each bring a different element to the table. Right now the PS3 doesn't have any games for it to be taken seriously. Really, if the Wii didn't have Zelda (a gamecube port) it wouldn't have anything that would draw me to it either. Wii sports and a lot of the other titles are just mini-games...not worth the price (I know, Sports is bundled, talking about the other games) and lacking any depth. The 360 has had large headstart but is just now finally getting some titles that make it look interesting and have a very robust online component. All of these consoles have plenty of potential (some more realized than others).

What I am trying to say is move on from your fanboyism because it is moronic. There should not be emotion involved when buying a game system. If a system has more of the types of games you enjoy, then buy it. Doesn't matter what other people think or say or what evil thing people say a company is doing. If what you like happens to be a Wii...great. Just don't turn in to an arrogant prick and judge people based on what they buy. You are turning in to the same type of person you hate.

It is sad and frustrating that this is the case...but you just have to get used to it.

Sequels have allowed them to make bundles of cash with less effort than starting from scratch. Is that good for the gamer? In this case, no. But from a business perspective it is like printing your own money.

It just strikes me as filler text that has nothing to do with the real reason. I didn't bother to RTFA because, seriously, who cares about this guy? Difficulty: You are kind of right. Leveling is much easier than in other MMORPGs. End game raid content is where the challenge is. But with a 40 man raid, a lot of people didn't have to do much. The new 25 man limit changes this. It does take skill so the difficulty improves.

Comunity: WoW has more players then any other game...you don't think it has a community? It doesn't sound like you joined a guild or did any end game content (or ran instances at all). Being forced to group in order to accomplish anything in a game does let you get to know more people..no doubt. But it is what turns off tons of people who don't want to sit for hours trying to find a group. If you didn't run instances as you levelled, didn't bother participating in a guild...then you are going to miss out on community. But it is your concious choice to do so.

Competition: Competition is stupid. You have a bunch of people all hanging around trying to tap a mob before someone else does. Ok everyone, log in at 5 EST because we have to get monster xyz spawn. Instancing is brilliant because it allows the challenge to be something everyone that can take part in. Not just people who have counters and spawn points on every mob in the game.

I can understand how one type of game can appeal to certain people...but I don't think you actually played WoW. You just got to 60 and thought that was it. 60 is where the game begins (well, 70 now).
