  1. Deliver drugs? on Will You Ride This Nano-Elevator? · · Score: 4, Insightful

I find it highly unlikely that moving something 1 nanometer will be usful for delivering drugs. It is a shame researchers have to pretend that their research does something it doesn't just to get funding. I know there are many other people here who would agree with me that more funding is needed for the general pursuit of knowledge that has nothing to do with the bottom line of a company.

  2. Re:Photoshop still rocks it on Gimp Hits 2.0 · · Score: 5, Insightful

Photoshop is definitely much better and more mature than the Gimp, but it comes with a $600 pricetag. The Gimp starts to become more of an option when you don't have to use some of the more intensive photoshop filters. (So people actually do pay for photoshop, enough-so that Adobe had some good earnings this quarter).

no reason to knock the gimp. It has an amazing cost to ability ratio.

When you say that windows is so insecure because it's users will execute anything, what do you think will happen if windows users move to linux? They will double click an email, see a popup window (assuming the program was written for the right desktop enviroment, which is a entirely different linux problem) that says "You're system must be updated to run this program. Please enter your root password." and BAM! you have a rooted linux box. The attacks tried in this article are do not rely on a bad users, but on insecure OSes.

This list is of devices that work perfectly. They do what they need to without any obnoxious interference. My analog watch tells me the time when I look at it. I never see the latest sports scores or the temperature. I get what I want. The author seems to have left off the broom. Why didn't the broom die when the vacuum was invented? Because the broom served its purpose quickly and efficiently. The broom has been used for at least 5,000 years and will probably continue to be used until humanity is destroyed. Thank goodness for places like OldVersion.com . Newer isn't always better.
