  1. This is scary.. on Projecting Sound 'Inside Your Head' · · Score: 5, Interesting

With this technology, they can directly beam marketing into your head, and it's not like you can ignore it like you can print/t.v/radio ad's by switching the channels, or averting your eyes. Now they have the ability to force you to listen to it, whether you want to or not.

  2. Re:x86? on Dvorak Thinks Apple Will Switch to Intel · · Score: 3, Insightful

I really don't think that the x86 or IA-64 tree is what apple needs/will take. Sure the hammers and itanic are far more powerful than the current G4's but what isn't.

And furthermore, it seems like a ton of work to switch processor architectures, instead of using a new chip based on your platforms current architecture. Which would you choose, re-writing a HUGE portion of your OS, making new motherboards, huge marketing spin? Or making new motherboards for a chip your OS already runs on?

  3. Re:Who woulda thunk it on Apple Terminates Safari Seed Program · · Score: 1

Well can you really blame them. Just look at how many people blatently ripped off the iMac's translucent look shortly after, it was released. Furthermore, doing industrial design like they are isn't cheap, nor is it easy. So of course they're protective of it. You'd be protective of your possessions, so why can't apple?

  4. Forget efficiency go with NOS on Increasing Fuel Mileage With Hydrogen? · · Score: 3, Funny

Efficiency is for tree hugging hippies. You drive a car because you want insane power at your disposal. So you need a NOS system, not a hydrogen system. However, if you combined the two.. Imagine the possibilities.

  5. Re:Reflections in the mirror on Surgeon Says Face Transplants a Reality · · Score: 1

Well it really depends on how much you look in the mirror, or see your reflection. Because if you never see your own face what association can your brain make between visual image and identity? However, if you constantly scrutinize your appearances the most subtle changes become very evident to you.

Since the transplant is mostly only skin, then I don't think that there would be that much difficulty in recognition. Mainly due to having new skin draped over an existing structure. Kind of like putting new covers on your bed, it doens't make your bed recognizable, only different. I think the same thing would happen with ones face. obviously it would be a more difficult transistion, but most likely a very happy one.

  6. Re:Who's Hat on Updated Power Macs at Apple.com · · Score: 1
Sure theoretically the macs should smoke any PC around, but I've seen numerous benchmarks PC vs Mac digital photo benchmarks that indicate elsewise. This is mainly due to cruddy ports of PC software to mac. But still the speed just doesn't multiply by some magic factor, and there is no point in comparing Mhz.

Look at real world performance to see how fast the machine is. Because when your working away on an image or rendering process, it matters not how fast your machine should or could be going but how fast it is going. And since apple's machines aren't up to snuff with AMD/Intel they need to do something about it.

  7. Re:Wait for the IBM 970 on Updated Power Macs at Apple.com · · Score: 1
I know I'm waiting for apple to stop releasing stop gap G4's. The G4 has lived a VERY long time, and it's time to send it to the grave. I mean what other consumer chip architecture is around for 3 years? Apple needs to get thier act together and start releasing PPC 970 based macs soon.

If your going to pay a huge premium for designer hardware, then it should at least be competitive, if not better than the non-designer models, which is far from reality right now.

  8. Re:This isn't a good analogy on Six Giant Music Retailers Will Try Online Sales Together · · Score: 1

Your analogy completely misses a huge part of what the labels do. Management! Who do you think hires the graphic artists to do the cover art and merch? Who hires the pressing factory to manufacture the discs and print the album jackets? Who hires all the tech crew to setup a bands kit so they don't have to? Who hires the lighting and pyro guys? Who sets up radio and concert gigs? Who sets up studio time with producer X? These are all very, very important things that are facilitated through the label. Sure the music is not created by them, but without them the music ceases to exist outside of small communal groups. Which is just dandy for larger cities but in the backwater areas of Canada, there are no touring bands or local bands at all sometimes. And then you have to question if a sans-label online purchasing method is going to be implemented, how exactly are new bands going to get any press at all? Hope that someone downloads a song by accident and spreads the word. Doesn't sound too effective to me. Sure the current system is highly broken, and needs to be fixed but eliminating the labels will solve nothing. With the labels gone, who will do all of the work I mentioned above? The band, I don't think so. They need thier time to practice, write and perform, they can't also arrange all the other things that need to be done. I don't really see a way that 4 people could possibly do all those things. If you can I'd be happy to hear it.

  9. Re:Negativity on First HDD MPEG4 Video Camcorder · · Score: 1

Actually I think it's mighty spiffy. It can record from most anything that has a video/audio port, and you can take it back home with you. I'm actually surprised they made something like this. It could be a great tool for the enterprising copyright violater.

  10. Re:Too many games? on Phantom Game Console · · Score: 1

Definately going to be quantity over quality. I remember when I picked up "action 52" for the NES.. It had "52 amazing games" or so that's what the box said. Yeah what a lie that was. Each game sucked more than the previous, many of the games weren't finished or were stupid variations of another weak game on the cart. Man did those 52 games blow, and now we have the chance to play 32,000 crappy games over the internet. Count me in!

  11. Maybe the aussies attempt will work on Australian Gov't Lobbied To Implement Media Levies · · Score: 1

Hopefully the australian gov. will actually give that money to the artists and not keep it under the matress like the Canadian government has so far. Still this is not good news. The long arm of the RIAA strikes again.

  12. Re:Dolls?!? on Judge Decides X-Men Aren't Human · · Score: 1

Barbie and ken can very easily become 'action' figures if used properly.

  13. Re:and the RIAA levy.... on Credit Card sized 5GB HD to arrive late this year · · Score: 1

What else could you possibly use it for other than to steal every scrap of digital content available to your grubby thieving hands. Its not like you might want to have other personal data around so that you could be productive.

  14. Re:It's about time on Credit Card sized 5GB HD to arrive late this year · · Score: 1

Well I hope, that the smaller sizes would be cheaper and have faster transfer speeds. Because what other advantages does it have over CF or any other removable storage. Even zip disks are more economical at the 100MB range.

  15. Re:Cool... but when? on MIT Develops Quantum-Dot OLEDs · · Score: 1

I remember that too, but this time I'm sure they mean it. I have one question about roll up monitors, how would you put them on your desk? Or would you just tack/tape them to the wall?

  16. Re:Here in Albany NY, two words... on Why (FM, Not XM) Radio Sucks · · Score: 1

yeah nothing is worse than marathons. Especially when it's creed. I'm actually quite happy with the state of radio in toronto after reading a bit about the clear channel empire. As no one company owns all the stations, and there is actually a fair bit of competition and diversity in the FM spectrum.
