Calm down CBG. I saw the old BSG, it can't hold a candle to the new series. Dirk Benedict? Sure, he was okayish, but rather plain, if you ask me. The only cool actor from the old show was papa from Bonanza, and they found a suitable replacement for him in the new show.
Pshaw, you were obviously never a fan of Stargate to begin with, so your criticism is not really valid. SG-1 did have a few uninteresting stories in season six and seven, but it's gained a new momentum with the last two seasons and I for one, am looking forward to the next season.

Sierra died due to a corporate buyout. They released quality games until the end... Man, I miss the Quest games...
Well, good adventures are rare these days, but they are there to be found. Broken Sword Sleeping Dragon, Indigo Prophecy and that new Agatha Christie game (And then there were none) are some of the new and good ones.
You realize you just compared a skin pack for a horse to a Ferrari?
200 points for a skin pack is half the price of a full Xbox Live Arcade game. There is no way this price is fair, even for those with money to burn. And status? Who's going to see your pimped out horse but you?
Then when they look back at older games and compare them to what they have now, they say they're ugly and how they're glad they have good graphics now. I say if they're ugly now, they were ugly then.
Spoken like a noob. (Sorry:)
I used to think King's Quest had amazing, "almost" cartoon like graphics. When Doom was new, its graphics were the cream of the crop. Today, both Doom and King's Quest looks like crap, but in the late eighties and mid nineties respectively, they were fantastic.
Sure, I hope it's going to good too. I've got an Xbox360 connected to a projector (got Oblivion in the mail today, so I know what I'll be playing for the next few weeks...), but I still got my Gamecube hooked up to my TV. I'm currently playing Wind Waker on it (the kids are playing super monkey ball and Donkey Konga with the bongos), and I think it's a really nice experience. I'm not down on Nintendo at all, just a bit cautious on expecting too much from the Revolution. Personally, I'd like a full body set controller with force feedback, but I guess that's not going to happen any time soon.:)
Personally, I've always had a soft spot for the final Windows 3.1 release of Office. Not that I'd ever use either Windows 3.1 or Microsoft Office for Windows 3.1 ever again, but at the time, it felt like a stable, mature product. Today, when I use my Windows box, I use Office 2004. It's fast, does everything I need it to do (and probably thousands of things I dont' care about). Will I switch to 2007? Only if it comes preloaded (which Office 2004 did).
On the issue of Microsoft releasing late. As a rule of thumb, Microsoft always releases stuff at least 12 months after they first gave a shipping date. This has been the case with their products ever since the early days of Windows. That Windows Vista is now being delayed into it's third year is rather dramatic, though, and also unusual for Microsoft.
Doesn't it seem amazing to you that with so very little manpower (by comparison to the traditional approach), people have been able to make such apps at all? It seems clear to me that such development techniques rival, and might be superior to the traditional approaches to GUI development.
But you don't need to fiddle with the GUI when developing web apps - you're just using the built in stuff that the browser developers have made. You're not working with the GUI at all.
Take this app. What kind of GUI does it depend on? There's the window, but that's just a simple browser window. There's the dialogs, but those are *very* basic javascript dialog windows. The print option opens the printer window for your current OS, again using settings from the browser. There is no new approach to GUI development here.
Yeah, well I tried it for a couple of minutes. I opened a new document, wrote some simple test lines and pushed save. After 20 seconds I got an error message saying something about an Conversion error. I was not able to save the document.
It's a good start, I guess, but the app needs a lot of tweaking. Also, releasing a new app every week seems extremely optimistic, unless you got a *huge* team of coders and major resources to draw from.
One thing that always irks me about these lookbacks is that it's mostly seen through the eyes of a console gamer. Gaming consoles in the 80s and 90s were underpowered toys compared to the computers of that age (starting with the micros, ie. Spectrum, C64, Amstrad, and then going on to the 16 bit micros, ie. Amiga, Atari, followed by the PC, ie. Doom). Nintendo and Sega had their platform games and their kiddie icons, but that was about it.
Run magazine used to have type-in listings for cataloging software. This was one of the reasons for buying one of those new fangled computer thingies in the 80s. I suggest you get hold of a C128 and a few select copies of Run magazine.:)
Failing that, if you've got the space, why not designate a room in your house the library and have nothing but books in it. You can sort books either using known systems, like Deweys, or simply by alphabetical order (yeah, I know, that sucks).
Oh, I agree with you, and that's why I'm not bothering to upgrade. I've spent a lot of hours configuring the system for my use, and I'm *not* keen to do that again. Even installing something as basic as Mplayer is a huge undertaking on Fedora Core.
Civilization is a good series, and I like the direction they've taken it with Civ 4. One thing that really annoys me about the game, however, is the winning conditions, especially the space race. You can play really well, and still loose because some nutter finishes the umpteenth space module/life support/etc. system before you do. Launching a space probe shouldn't be a win condition, IMHO. I know it's been there since Civ 1 (which I played for months on my Amiga 500), but it's time to let it go, I think.
Backup, install, and spend the next fortnight tweaking your system back into shape. There is no other way.;/
(I've got FC4, and I'm *not* upgrading)
Of course, if you've got all your documents etc. on a separate partition, you shouldn't run into really bad problems when installing FC5. Be sure to backup config files etc. that you may have put on the system partition.

Yeah, it's like all those people who sees Futurama mentioned, and jump in to say how they do not like The Simpsons any more. Pathetic.

You played games because you liked manipulating menus and using hotkeys? No wonder you think games are obsolete... :)
That's why all the clever guys got an Amiga 2000 with a processor upgrade and a harddrive. Fast as lightning, and it had good WP support to boot.
Yo linux machine so fat cause you looked at the package choices and went "okay!" to all
Yo linux machine so fat she's got to have *two* IP addresses
Wonder what that typo was, tho'.

Yeah, that's one. And two) hope Revolution pans out like you want it to. ;)
I'm not trolling. Who here has tried the Revo's controllers? It may be suited for this kind of game, but then again, it might not.

What are you implying? I pronounced it aloud, and it sounded like this: filecheckeditor. It's not very memorable! ;P
