OO is neat package, especially for Linux systems, but there's no denying it has some catching up to do to compete feature for feature with MS Office. One bug that's really annoyed me with the latest 2.0 release is that it crashes everytime I import a csv file into Calc, save it and then try to forward the file via my mail client. I haven't investigated it, so I don't know if it does with all open documents, or if it's specific to what I did above. I've filed a bug report, though.
Another blogger thinks the game market is heading for a crash. Please come up with some more original ideas. This topic comes up every few weeks, it seems, with nothing new added to the table ("PS3 going to be soo exepensive, teh market will crash for sure" -- uh, yeah. We still have inexpensive PCs, the moderately expensive Xbox360 and the probably cheap Wii).
Looking at market trends, it's difficult to see just why there will be a big crash. Xbox360 keeps selling, massive turnout for E3, Nintendo is still selling shitloads of Nintendogs, and PS3 will definitely turn heads, no matter the price. Seriously, are these *really* signs pointing to a crash?
Hey! I bought that. It had a good index of recipes, and a few multimedia clips, ie. thumbnail-sized videos, showing goofy Dom cooking. It was rather good fun, though a bit slow to navigate, IIRC.
I have a HDTV and I am looking forward to hidef movies. That said, I'm not sure whether I'll get the PS3, but then, I've never been a big fan of Sony. I'll probably buy it eventually.
You mentioned Halo 3. Sure, that's big, but GTA4 is bigger, and Sony losing their exclusivity on that one is definitely going to cost them.
Yeah, but some people buy a games console to play games, you know, not because it can play a disc format that's unproven in the market place. At least when PS2 launched, DVDs were taking off big time. The HD disc drive in PS3 makes it a lot more expensive, but it doesn't give it a much bigger advantage.
I don't know if many will agree with me, but my biggest beef with the "new" controller is that it's simply the PS2 controller all over again, but without rubmle and some added motion sensing stuff. Of the three current-gen consoles, the PS has by far the worst controllers of the bunch. They're quite frankly painful to use. I'm really disappointed. Even the banana controller would be better than the one presented at E3.
Well, Ken Williams sold Sierra to an apparently reputable company (but one that went belly up shortly after). Sierra was eventually swallowed by Vivendi, but none of the original employees remain.
Lucasarts wanted to focus on Star Wars exclusively, and apparently felt that producing adventure games were too cash intensive and earned too little revenue. Seeing as Sierra was one of the most successful game companies in the early micro computer age, I find that hard to believe.
Nowadays, a few adventure games are released every year, but although a few of them are rather good (I'd recommend Broken Sword - Sleeping Dragon), they haven't advanced particularly compared to the early nineties games, which is quite a shame.
Or most any Scumm-based game.:=) Monkey Island 1 was a truly great experience. I remember waiting for MI2 as well, and this game along with Sierra's stuff, prompted me to buy a PC, after having used an Amiga since 1987.
Lucasarts two Indy adventure games are the among the best adventure games ever made. I doubt we'll ever see a new adventure game like that, but here's hoping, right?:)
You're right, but that's the point. It could be perfect for Wii, but it might not. It's redundant. Every game could be perfect on the Wii, but chances are, not every game will be.
Don't take it the wrong way, I expect I'll buy a Wii as I have every Nintendo console in the past, I'm just getting tired of all this hype and oohing and aahing:).
Every game could be perfect for Wii. They could also be perfect for PS3, or indeed the Xbox 360. It really depends on how much thought you put into it. Frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of these "could be perfect for Revolution/Wii" comments for every game we hear about.
This game could in fact be terrible for Wii. Imagine whipping the controller and not seeing any on screen action until a few seconds later. Or the whip whps the wrong way. Or with not enough force. Etc.
It's a variation of the Sony Defense. GTA is a *huge* seller, and many people have been on the fence on whether to buy the 360 or wait for the PS3. By publicizing the fact that GTA will appear on both consoles simultaneously, Microsoft in effect says that it's not necessary to own a Playstation to play GTA4 in the first months after its release.
Being a 360 owner, this comes as really good news. The GTA series was the clincher that made me buy a PS2, but since GTA4 will be out on Xbox360 the same day as the PS3 version, there's no need to get a PS3 at all.;)
(Though I'll probably get one when it comes down in price.)
It really is brilliant. I read the reviews for the new Tomb Raider game a few days ago and wanted to check it out. It was right there in Xbox Marketplace, so I downloaded it and played it an hour or so later (the download speed is not that great, though, since I could easily have downloaded it in ten minutes if MS could download at my maximum connection speed).
Of course, we've had the ability to do this on the PC (and even on really old computers, like the C64, prior to that) for many, many years, but it's good to see downloading coming to the consoles never the less.
Thanks for the heads up. I had never heard of Clicksor before today. I guess the best way of making cash through ads is hard work; ie. building up a site and then contacting clients yourself. I have a feeling MSN won't be any nicer than Google when it comes to suspected click fraud.;)
You're not in minority as far as I'm concerned. The Director's cut is bad, really bad. The new ending just ruined the whole atmosphere (along with all the other changed stuff).
Yeah, I remember that very well. I was always intending to check out Betrayal of Krondor, but I never got around to it. I had read Feist's book up to that point as well. Hmf, it's weird to hear that Vivendi has rescinded its freeware status. I don't really see what there's to be gained now.
Anyway, I was a passionate Sierra fan since its inception and have played every single adventure game they've released (at least the graphical ones -- the text based stuff were never released around here). I know they exist as a label, but that doesn't really mean anything. Sierra died when Ken W. left the board.
Seriously, can anyone tell me what was so great about God of War? I found it rather boring and repetetive, and haven't really felt the urge to complete it.

Anyway, I'd suggest this url: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Main_Page to the submitter, but it does seem to be developer specific.

Oh well, there's always the IF scene.

AFAIK, VC and SA is based on the GTA3 engine. GTA4 is a new engine, hence the new name.

I agree with you, but I'd like to point out that Oblivion is not an MMORPG. That's part of its allure to many people (myself included).

Another one that looks good (though I've not tried it)

Personally, I'm using Adsense on my site (http://www.mailtic.com/), but I'm considering the alternatives.
I have a friend who has never watched the Star Wars series, though he is a big geek. He's a Meg Ryan fan to boot. It's really incomprehensible.
But he was right about this one ;=)

They've been dead since about 99. I don't think they care any more. ;)
