Here in the netherlands, we have lots of free internet providers, tons of them (I think there must be 15+ of them, and it's a small country), and no ads!, no properiety dialers, just ppp and pap.
However, in the netherlands, we have to pay for our local calls, no matter if it's a paid-for or free internet provider. The free internet providers have a deal with the telco and get a percentage of the telephone calls they generate.
allthough I'd love to have free local calls and a paid-for internet provider, this has really opened up the internet for a lot of users. and a recent survey even showed the free internet providers have a better product (speed etc) then the paid-for internet providers. ---
I would like it off too, but I often visit 2 fora which run The Ultimate Bulletin Board. and 80% of the HTML code is generated on the client side by javascript. (how's that for a bad design). If javascript is turned off , the forum looks like a big mess.
then so be it, you want a real life test or what ? the point is, lots of people use MySQL, small/medium webhosting services, etc. , if you want to test a real-life situation, you have to test that too. ---
The fibre card can only run at 1000 Mbit, the UTP card can run at 10, 100 and 1000 Mbit. the UTP card automatically determines if it is connected to a 10 , 100 or 1000 Mbit network, IIRC this is called auto negotiation ---
What about MySQL for a real-world test ? lots of people use MySQL as a backend as they can not afford Oracle. MySQL is even available for Windows, so it could be tested with that too.
furthermore I'd like to see some test with different webserver/database server combinations. maybe even an linux/apache server with NT/SQL-Server as database (and vice versa)
They should copy MickeySofts naming scheme and call it the Pentium 2000 Professional, the xeon should be renamed to the Pentium 2000 Advanced Processor, hell they could even make a Pentium 2000 Datacenter Processor.
Imagine the looks on the faces of people who've just bought a Pentium 2000 Professional and think its runs at 2ghz... fried CPU's }:->
So BAH to finding aliens. Let's fix things in the HUMAN world first.
maybe the discovery of Intelligent Extra Terrestrial life will unite mankind when people realize we're not alone. hey, the ET's could have got the answers to solve the problems in this world. ---
I hate M$ like the next guy... but you can't say there aren't some really smart people at microsoft. the problem is, they don't run the company, marketing does.
Have you even listened to the music ? I think its great!, play is a really good CD. <b>but</b> music is all about taste, and you can't argue about taste. what one person thinks of as awfull, can be great in another person's opinion. ---
You don't get the point. I'm a Nerd, what do I talk about with my friends ? "yeah I installed this new SCSI card and it worked out-of-the box, the system recognised it, installed all drivers correctly, and everything works"
we want to tell heroic tales of struggles with hardware, about our battles to get a driver to compile, we want to be able to feel like ubernerds because we got the hardware working after hours of fiddling with IRQ's , we want to customize our OS so it fits our exact needs, it's our life, it's the source of our happyness and our sole purpose in life!
The installation procedure is horrible, but it is manageble.
It's strange, but this almost makes me want to run the damn thing.
I know what you mean, I installed SuSE 6.4 on someone's system last weekend, and I was really disappointed, it was hardly any challenge. (kudos to the SuSE developers for that btw)
I want to fiddle with thing, find out why it doesn't work and how to make it behave like I want. (so, I installed debian on a sparc-10 last week too:)
Why not just make 2 seals , and send one seal to the other team, in that way they could see if it fits. you don't have to bring the complete module! just the part that should connect to the other part. ---
What if it's the other way around ??? what if the government ordered hollywood to make a movie about a mission to mars to prepare the public for a real mission to mars ???

moderate parent +5, Good News
I'd love a GTK version and especially to get rid of the "start" button.

Going up is not that difficult, with enough brute force etc.
the going down part seems more dangerous to me.

That's a cool idea, a program that can do vector and bitmap graphics at the same time.

Anyone else find iMacs hard to consider when buying a workstation?
It seems to me they would make great X-terminals }:->

As long as I don't see "ext2 brought to you by McDonald's, get your free tux with your happy meal today!" every time I boot up ;)
;-)
Why not ? I would love a free tux with my happy meal!

but how to use it ??
I'd love to know where to use the pwd, I'll bet lots of lame wannabe sysops 'forget' to delete the file.

I want ADSL too, now I'm stuck with this 100Mbit LAN connection .... oh wait that's faster... never mind :)

Staroffice can export a presentation to HTML
I don't know if Powerpoint can.
