Being able to work on another terminal while compiling is one of the most beautiful things about *nix, and to do that on anything with less than 512 MB or 1 GB or RAM you want to have some swap.

I really hope that wasn't you saying that. 1 GB of RAM is nice, yes, but the fact that you said it was required to be able to compile and use a terminal is quite funny. So if I open another terminal, I should put in some more RAM? 128mb, 256mb, or 512mb? Maybe just another gig for good measure?

To the article poster: I'm sorry, did you just mention how IE is tied with the release of Longhorn, and therefore there won't be any innovation in CSS, XHTML, or any other web standard?

May I remind you that IE does not adhere to CSS or XHTML specifications. You also make it sound as if Internet Explorer defines web standards. Wrong again. The World Wide Web Consortium defines XHTML, CSS, SVG, and many more. W3C is the leader of web innovation and standards production (yes I know that makes me sound like a W3C fanatic).

As a TSR (Technical Support Representative, fancy name eh?), I'm on both ends of the stick nearly each day. At work I handle cable modem tech support and at home I have my own cable modem (not with the company I work for). The truth of the matter is a firewall can cause problems. Even if it hasn't been updated by YOU, the firewall itself may have been updated through automatic updates (Norton AntiVirus does this).

That is why it's one of the first questions we ask (well I ask, anyways).

This "knowledge" comes from using SuSE 9.0.

    1. SuSE uses Grub for it's boot loader, but I suppose you mean the installation wizard. YaST is used, it's a very nice, user-friendly GUI.
    2. Installation is only available for free from ftp, but not in the form of CDs. You have to do an ftp install or if you have a computer setup with nfs you can do a local network install.
    3. SuSE does excellent automatic hardware detection with YaST.
    4. I think so. heh.
    5. AFAIK, SuSE is one of the top 3 that most vendors release RPMS for (usually, in no particular order): Debian, SuSE, Mandrake.
    6. Yes, there are many included. Buying the retail package, it comes with a DVD and 5 cds (I think they reduced the CD count though).
    7. If by logical you mean where they should be in accordance with linux file placement, for the most part, yes. The X11 config file is in it's correct folder. executables in bin/sbin, etc.

Again, this experience is with 9.0, but I'm sure some of it applies to 9.1.
