  3. Staling the open standard on Movie Studios Unveil New Anti-Piracy Lab · · Score: 1

This looks like another attempt at staling an open standard on DRM, Hollywood do not wants online distribution now, they make too much money on DVD, and they where able to mandate all the DRM and content encryption and player revocation scheme that they never dream possible of in the HD-DVD and Blue Ray, on top of that now Apple, M$ and Intel are also bowing and incorporate all the nasty stuff that Hollywood is asking, from the M$'s "secure Content path" to Apple's TPM chip to Intel's hardware "trusted computer" shit. Hollywood is in such a powerful position now that all that they are doing is make sure they are completely locking the user out of they own content.

  4. Googutenberg on The Implications of Google's Digital Library · · Score: 4, Insightful

Just like Gutenberg disrupted the Copyist Monk industry few century ago, Google library has the potential to completely change the way people find books, is it bad ? is it good ? I think it's just different and easier for the book's end user: us.

From the NewsFactor article "In some ways, Microsoft may be looking to eliminate the role of the designer in the future, (...) Microsoft wants to turn developers into designers." Okaaaaay then. I was not the PDC, sorry, my bad, next time I'll take my ticket and make sure I understand what M$ wants me to understand, in the meantime I still think it's a bad idea.

No, they can't, it's a developer, trained by M$ to be a designer, using the new suite that find this name, and Marketing though it was sounding cool...

  8. Scary perspective on Microsoft Unveils New Design Studio · · Score: 1

"Supposedly the goal is not to compete head to head with the proposed Adobe/Macromedia merger but to turn developers into designers" The first part is dubious and the second just plain scary, a little of M$ magic powder and shazaam! now are a designer, I know to work with both, developers and designers are two completely different breed, rare, extremely rare are the persons good at both!

USA is very interesting; it's okay to have a game where the goal is to become a "better" gangster, but as soon as you go below the belt every youth advocate start to cry. I rather have my kids playing with their wiener than playing with a gun. At least if it shoots itself by accident the only risk a stain, and a smile.

  15. DivX give better quality than XviD on DivX 6.0 is Out · · Score: 1

DivX do not bundle any spyware with their products, and if you want to qualify the optional Google toolbar as spyware that's your call. Also I was playing a lot with the DivX 6 beta before it goes out and it is better than XviD in the best encoding mode, DivX 6 in insane mode with optimized h263 quantizer consistently beat XviD with all the rate distortion on. I guess the scene as a more political reason to choose XviD over DivX, coz' from a technical point of view, DivX is better now !
