Yeah, it probably stems from the way most geeks are persecuted and bullied from the time they are young. Many don't develop ways to cope and turn out as completely spineless, amoral wrecks. I'm not terribly surprised about the 'geek response' on this issue. Geeks, in general, have too much baggage to be able to cope with some of the ideas represented by our war on Iraq: Self-defence by prevention, following through on threats, justice, sharing liberty with others, etc...
Personally, I'd rather watch LaCrosse than either sort of football.
And I'd rather watch golf than NASCAR. chunkwhite is right. The oval is boring. Give me some good old LeMans or TransAm racing with the challenging road courses.
What makes you think it's a party issue? Are elected officials not allowed to think and act outside party limits? (In fact, I wish they would act independantly a little more.) I seems to me that this is a split issue with people from either party on either side.
A lot of the smokey diesels out there only smoke because of the type of diesel fuel burned. The chemical composition of type 2, if I remember correctly, is cleaner. (I think it's sulfur they filter out.) My old boss drives a GMC diesel. He says the visible difference between the fuel types is remarkable.
I agree. This proposed internet tax will likely give diminishing returns.
When I buy items online, I already have to pay for shipping. Still, bargains can be found. If we tack on another 5-8%, those bargains will be a lot harder to come by. The online shopping will decline, and so will the precious tax revenue. It's very self-defeating.
Such as...?
Who is credible? Is there some news network or source that does not slant or pre-interpret the news they report? Is there a source that isn't biased in its selection of newsworthy material?
If my wife finds out about this, I'll never get to use my computer. She freaks over this kind of game... I guess I'll have to think up some other hobby. Is sword-swallowing hard?
Just burn the files on CDs and distribute them to the people who want them by US mail. Sure, it's slower and maybe not secure, but you won't be flamed by the FTPers and HTTPers. (Watch out for FedExers though...)
Tom's Hardware puts out some of the most amature benchmarks available. Really. Try comparing their methods to almost any other site out there (One of my favorites being anandtech.com.) and you may find that Tom's is hardly scientific.
it's questionable whether you can just stick a democracy in a country that has no concept of one and have it thrive.
That doesn't say much for the Japanese and Germans. I'd say they've come a long way since we made them make some changes. I dare say that their democracies are thriving.
My school has a fleet of Dells (ick) in the programming lab where I do all my work. I've had to get used to emailing my code home because every time I use one of those miserable little devices, it corrupts at least part of the data.
My floppy drive at home doesn't have any problems reading or writing. This leads me to believe that there is something inherently wrong with the Dell floppy drive. So, IMHO Dell hasn't had a floppy drive in their systems for years...
I no longer have a VCR. Mine wore out. I do have a DVD player though. I wonder if Jacko would like to provide me with DVDs of all the VHS movies I own... Oh, well. Until he does, I'll be on Kazaa finding digital backups of movies that I have already payed for...

Blech!!! I'll have the crab juice.

Unfair moderation!! I guess someone out there doesn't like their water being called a greenhouse gas...

Sounds like Mr. SmallDick is jealous. (and possibly getting turned on...)

I'm with you. 6'3", 205#, Kickboxing & bodybuilding enthusiast when I have time off from writing code. C++ is where it's at.

I'm glad to hear that you're a Libertarian. With your demented ideas, I'm glad you throw your votes away.
