We could use this with LoCps (Libraries of Congress per second). Wouldn't that be LoCs/s?
From Wikipedia: Occasionally, this figure has been referred to as a data transfer rate, LoCs/s- Libraries of Congress per Second- and equates to 20 terabytes of data transferred per second.
Many here have mentioned Google's other offerings, but I haven't seen anyone mention Google News yet. I read the news every day, and I find the automated generation keeps bias out of the stories taken overall. Also, they have recently added a customize news feature that allows you to add coverage of any topic you wish, and to change the basic layout. Give it a try! Ballmer is way off base, I believe.
I think that Michael Moore should make a movie, by approaching these companies managers, like he did with Roger and Me.
It might make a nice expose for all of those that have unknowingly clicked on one of these so called ads.

This is not right for everyone. I have shopped for every phone I have bought, and got the phones for free (after rebate) and even negotiated a 3-month or less contract. If you know the market rates for celluar carriers in your area, you can use that to your advantage.
I think every license plate should be linked to the owners car phone, so that you can acually call them, and say something like "thanks for using your turn signal". Or "your coat is hanging out the door". Now if MS can offer that service, I'd sign up.
I totally agree. I reached that threshold today, having more than 1000 messages, with only 1 non-spam for about 4 days worth of email.
Also, I think that the articles' ratio of spam to non-spam 1935/5849=33% was way out of proportion.
Specifically, for the period of November 1 to December 1, 2002, a pre-trained mailfilter.crm (as distributed as CRM114 version 2002-11-26 ) processed the authors live incoming mail stream, a total of 5849 messages (1935 spam, 3914 nonspam) , with only 4 false acceptances, 0 false rejections, and 2 messages considered "not humanly classifiable".
My messages to spam ratio is more like (100 messages) 98 spam, 2 nonspam 98/100=98% at the most. My question is, how does the author keep his spam ratio so low? If you update the study from 2002 to 2004, I'm sure those numbers will be vastly different.
The music industry
should be doing market research and offering "Napster-like" subscription services ($5/Gig/month, for example). People want to be legal.
Right on! Ever since I bought my first CD, I wanted to be able to choose the best cuts from any CD and make my own. In fact, I was planning to make a web site that could do that, but I didn't own the rights to sell the music. Now, I see the music stores that are closing and wonder if they will be replaced by an bunch of e-terminals that run something like Itunes, but for for any format.
If I could pay to choose any song, I'd gladly do it. $5/GB/month - that seems low to me, but it's a worthy idea. $1/song seems a bit high, as on Itunes, but somewhere in the middle, like $.01/MB might be profitable for the recording companies (RCs), yet affordable for us music lovers.
Instead of bringing a lawsuit, the RCs should already have a "Music-Maker Jukebox" that would let me pick any songs I want, and insert my credit card, and get my CD out! (or have a dock for my I-pod.) Forget the 12-15 song format - Let me pick 1 song, or 300 - as many or few as I want that will fit on the media.
I agree that boss once he gets the idea that you are a slacker, he will find out ways to make you look bad. I was sometimes at the mall on lunch, and acouple team members paging me for 'fun' told me boss i was shopping. Needless to say, I an no longer working there. Almost 3 years and they say byby to me. It was better off for me in the long run. I had a short term assignment at Pfizer, doing win2k migrations.
That led to my contract at my current job in Auburn Hills. I'll probably be moving out to live close to work, at the end of the year.
IBM doesn't claim to cure neurosis with it's AIX LPARS, but it does have much to offer with curing ailing CPUs, memory, and IP based network cards.

So, when I have a baby, how do the IRL spammers (junk mail companies) *find out* I've had one?
My concern is that even with e-stamps, there will still be lots of spammers that abuse the email, and find ways to get 'bulk e-stamps' at a reduced rate.
You are right coder4hire, I stand corrected.

I can totally relate to the main character in the book wanting to find an old arcade game. In fact I was looking for Turtles by Konomi, 1980, a couple years ago, and couldn't find it. Then, enter MAME, and a seach for the rom - voila. Now I'm happily playing it.

I agree with Chanc_Gorkon on the idea of replacing the shuttle with a new design that ends up being shaped more like a capsule than a plane. I'd much rather be dropping back to earth in a 'misshaped bullet' with my backside toward the 3000+ degree heat than trusting that thousands of clay puzzle peices under my belly stayed together during reentry.

In case the movie is slashdotted, here is a link to more versions of the movie.

If you have a little cash, you can get pre-assembled strips of bright-led lighting for about $20 each here.

Exactly. It's not what you get, it's what you give to others (like access to your music) that really counts.
