Semi-offtopic, but could anyone recommend a good RSS to follow to alert about vulnerabilities? It doesn't even have to be MS or Linux specific. I tried following CERT, but theirs is behind (they don't even have this posted).
No I mean with normal people. Of course there will be more google hits.
Go out on the street and see if 222,000,000 people know what linux is. I know you can find at least 5,500,000 people (their user count) who know what livejournal is.
One of the most popular Open Source projects?

I'll take a guess and guess that LiveJournal is in the top 5 of open source projects. By popular I mean user count.
If you are looking at popularity by name count, it might even rival Linux.
Remember blaster? *shudders* I remember that our network was so bad at work that when we would get a new computer and turn it on to cast an image with Symantec Ghost, that it would be infected within 30 seconds. Anti-virus software is definitely necessary.
That's why I said I use a firewall. It can spread to what it can't access.
Unfortunetly I just switched my laptop back to windows from linux due to some software I must use (VMWare is too slow and WINE won't run it).
I am now faced worrying about spyware and viruses.
What I've done:
-Use Firefox for browsing. -Set IE security to HIGH for the "Internet zone". Disabling ActiveX. -Added Windows Update sites to the "Trusted Zone" so I can actually update". -Installed Privoxy to help block junk when browsing sites. -Installed SP2 so I have a firewall to protect against viruses that hit on the ever so lovely NETBIOS or RPC ports. No exceptions in the firewall.
All of my email is filtered by my Exchange server so I don't think I'll be needed anti-virus on my laptop. I almost never get or open attachments.
I'm hoping this will protect me. If anyone has anymore suggestions, please let me know. Also, I'm trying to figure out why Windows gets slow over time. It's like the installation rots. I'm trying to find out if you can prevent it.
This target alert extension looks really cool. Too bad I just installed it in Linux, restarted and see nothing.
I gave up on extensions a long time ago in Linux, I don't know if they work in Windows or what but 90% do not work right in Linux. Right now the only one I use that works is the bugmenot extension.
Why do I have to reconfigure X to switch from my laptop's LCD to my external CRT? Why can't I use the nifty FN+F7 on my laptop or close the lid?
Why can't it detect when I'm docked and switch to dual head (LCD + CRT)?
The effects are cool, but alot of us would like to see these usability features too. I like using a graphical login, but I can't because I'm forced to have two X configurations. One for my LCD and one for my CRT.
My laptop harddrive (40 gigs) is filling up because of all my VMware images (about 30 gigs). I'm needing to offload it onto a portable usb device since I don't use em all the time.
I'm thinking an IPOD as well, but at 30 gigs it doesn't leave much room for music....
They are not cheap and plasticy. They are made of some sort of VERY sturdy material. I'm not sure what else to call it but carbon, but their are tough as hell. Especially the back of the LCDs.
That's actually the first reason I bought one. I travel around the city everyday and needed something that wouldn't break easily (like a Dell or HP, which ARE made of cheap plastic).

I wish OO Calc had the Format Painter feature Excel does. I love using it to clean up the format of a spreadsheet.
TV detector vans?
Why would one need this?
You know you can turn that mouse thing off in the BIOS right?
I personally love the nub mouse.
Man I hope the quality of IBM Thinkpads doesn't drop. Thinkpads are (in my opinion) the best laptops you can buy.

This company is probably nothing more than someone running Asterisk, using Nufone for the PSTN service.

Then all you need to do is write something to manage user accounts, and accept paypal payments and bam. You've got camophone.com.
This whole configuration could probably be whipped up in a day.
You think they wouldn't crack encrypted disks? You are just delaying the inevitable.
Uh, did you read my post? I'm talking about doing that without reconfiguring X just to switch between my laptop LCD and dual external LCDs.
Call me when I can plug my laptop into a docking station and get video up on two monitors without having to edit a configuration file.

In fact, now it won't let me uninstall! Not only does it not work, but it won't remove from my extensions list!

Question: What's stops someone from doing SSH forwarding to a US box, or using a US proxy?
10 Years? That's just in time for Back to The Future to be correct. GREAT SCOTT!!

I'm personally wondering why any IT Manager would give a crap about a video game console?
Kensington makes a keyboard similar, but it's not DVORAK or Ergonomic.
Try Citrix, their application publishing works good.
Ahh, I understand. I'm more into the look they have than something flashy.
No,no,no.

Yes! I have a Thinkpad T41, and it's what dreams are made of. I will never own another brand of laptop again.
The box runs linux great, there is a great thinkpad linux mailing list, the battery life is amazing and it's fast as hell.
Good choice linux journal...
