So did my neighbor. He had just graduated High School and wanted to buy a car. He and his dad found one listed in the local paper and went to check it out. His dad noticed the car had been repainted recently with a different color when he looked inside the doorframes. The seller said it was because of "hail damage" but my friend and his dad didn't buy the story (or the car). The checked the VIN on the Internet and found that the seller was the father of a man who had killed a couple of girls in the area, one of which was a girl my friend and I went to school with. The father was trying to sell the car that his son had hidden the girls bodies in the trunk!

True story. The killers name was Leslie Allen Williams and I believe within the next couple of years, he was killed in prison.

Looks like the Cincinnati news media finally got wise to the story.

From the article:"Internet search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, can turn up a variety of information about people and their interests. Using the Internet as a personal private detective is gaining in popularity in the dating world, as a way to background potential suitors, and to track down former classmates, relatives or genealogy information. The practice is becoming so commonplace that the word Google is being used a verb.

The newpaper editor Googling skills might have improved, but not their proofreading skills.

Like the guy at our site here who wanted to unplug a fiber channel array from a daisy chain because he thought it wouldn't down the customers production environment? Even after the other senior tech and myself told him it was a very bad idea, even after phoning the drive array design engineers in the state where they designed them and having the lead engineer tell him that unplugging the drive cage while the system was running would corrupt the customers environment?

It finally came down to the other tech and myself finding an executive manager and telling him that if he valued his companys production environment, that this person could not be allowed to touch any drive arrays.

Is that what you mean by "devoid of western ego"?

  8. Now let me tell you how it works in the real world on A Thoughtful Look at Indian Outsourcing · · Score: 1

In the end of it, this is what Free Trade is about: people. This article makes that clear."

Free trade has nothing to do with people. It has to do with the gross profit margins of the companies doing the outsourcing. If it had even the tiniest bit to do with people, the people I know (who by the way were rated as top employees for several consecutive years) would not have gotten an outstanding review and a month later been told "Your skills are indispensible to us and our division couldn't have had a successful year without you. You should have no problem finding a job in 30 days with skills like yours."

Sure enough, those people had NO problem finding new jobs. Unfortunately, my company lost top perfomers so they could hire program developers that (and I kid you not) couldn't figure out what version of Visual Basic they were running, and SA's who didn't think things like subnet masks mattered when troubleshooting network issues.

That "it's about the people" crap may fool politicians and ease the conscience of the executives pondering mass layoffs, but it does nothing for talented, dedicated employees who after 10-15 years of service, are given 30 days to leave without any regard for salary level or performance.

I used to be a member of a model railroad club in Holly, Michigan. It was in an old movie theater and the layout covered ALL the floorspace. There was a balcony where the movie screen used to be and that's where we controlled the engine by wireless and kept the dispatch busy by updating them with our engine locations.

It was a first-class layout there. Anybody else in Michigan ever visit the Detroit model railroad club in Holly?
