You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

From our good old friend wikipedia:

Creativity is a mental process involving the discovery of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the existing ideas or concepts, fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight.

How can you say that after reading this comic: http://xkcd.com/368/

    That's pretty fucking creative.

Apple wants total control over the tools used to create applications on their devices. They can't do that with Adobe Flash. Peace is not possible.

Having flash in the locked down iPhone/iPad environment would be akin to having a dynamic programming environment on the iPhone/iPad. It would open up so many vectors for screwing with the security on the devices. I imagine it would be a great vector for hacks as well, especially given how homogenous the iPhone/iPad environment is.

This is the problem with the advance of technology: when it becomes extremely cheap, the temptation to abuse technology and violate privacy (if that concept even still exists) becomes greater and greater.

Look, any proprietary company that cares about the stability of their product is going to be interested in keeping their platform very tightly controlled. Instead of talking about closed platforms, tell people to decide for themselves.

I did my research. I'm an existing Apple user. I can live without Flash, so I decided to buy an iPhone, and later, an iPad.

Flash is not the center of my universe. In fact, I do think the web would be better without it (that's why I use flashblock). But that's why the iPad and iPhone are devices I'm comfortable using (among other reasons).

If you can't live without flash on your device, or if you want to run any old crappy app under the sun, do your research. Don't buy Apple. Buy a product that supports what you want.

The market will speak and the product that succeeds will be the superior product.

I'm tired of this flamebait crap that tries to tell people what to think. Everyone should be making their own decisions for what product supports features they want.

Netbooks just suck. That's why no one's buying them anymore. It's not because of the iPad.

We have a hard time justifying buying an inferior tiny product that you can barely see, which can't really do that much, especially when almost everyone already has a laptop or desktop which works just fine.

The iPad is successful with people because it provides a big huge screen which is great for lying in bed or sitting out on the patio relaxing with. While this is possible with a laptop, the iPad is much more conducive to a more relaxed environment (the ads for the thing were spot on in my opinion).

Also it does have a longer battery life than a standard laptop. Laptops tend to chew through batteries way too fast these days.

I know it's fashionable to not read the article on Slashdot, but you really should.

It may be possible for WoW to be re-compiled to run on the iPad, but that's not what happened here. They are using Gaikai, a cloud computing server which is still in beta. Gaikai is designed as a service to play games on hosted servers and stream to your client which essentially acts as a dumb terminal. This would essentially remove the requirement to have a 3D graphics accelerator on your computer.

It's a very interesting concept, and if they can do it I will be very impressed. I'm guessing there are going to be a number of hurdles with this operation, because this is not a typical cloud service; there is a lot of processing involved here.

It'll probably cost a lot to subscribe...

It seems to me that using this device for creating word documents is not really that a good idea; it reminds me of the monty python skit where they ask someone to cut down a tree with a herring.

Personally I word process on my desktop when I have REAL work to do. If I want to write leisurely I could see that working on the iPad, but it's definitely not what I envision myself doing.

I'm going to be reading, watching movies, listening to music and playing games. It does those all pretty well IMO, and the OLED screen is gorgeous indoors (kind of reflective outside). Still wish it had a pixelqi screen but, ah well. Such is the fate of an early adopter.

Guess this is a good lesson: if you're in security, you should pay attention to the people who are releasing vulnerability reports instead of relying on (a) operating systems with histories of unpatched issues and (b) security tools shown to not be effective 100% of the time. Sometimes you just have to be informed, and know all the varied sources to pull vulnerability information from.

However, I think it's generally accepted that by "undetected" we all mean undetected by the noob organizations that got pwned.
