Right now, I'd like to head north:)
There's only a few/.'ers here, and the regular meetup has been cancelled because of too few people. Maybe after the storm, we can have some kind of regional meeting with the people from around Jax or Ocala all getting together.
I just thought of something. "Karma" is Indian.
n.
Hinduism & Buddhism. The total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny. Sanskrit, deed, action that has consequences, karma.
If Alexa is any indication, they are doing well. Alexa users make up maybe 10% of Internet users, but being in the top 100 on Alexa is very good.

Leerpm said "I don't think most these spammers are actually processing the cards". Most likely thats whats happening. It doesnt make much sense for someone to spam a product in an email, have the sucker buy it using a CC, then the spammer cashing out the CC payment. Too much of a trail back to them.
It makes more sense for a spammer to spam a product, take the suckers CC information and never send whatever product is being spamvertised, then resell the information to a third party, who then uses the CC for fraudulent purchases.
I just wonder how this shakes out legally. If the spammer gets caught, he's only defrauded a person of one most likely inexpensive item or two, a relatively minor offense, and could claim that "someone else" must of got the information from his computer, similar to the defense one guy in England used to dispute a child porn charge recently.
I've known Parry since '97, when she was involved in Cyberangels. Her site, Wired Safety has a lot of good information and resources for kids on the 'net. Also, our Safety Section and Kids Chat Rooms have more detailed information regarding safety issues for both children and adults, and chat areas that we've previewed as kid friendly.

Here are a few other stories that were missed.
Chat Network Operators and Users Wary of "Uniformed" Police Presence.
We had conducted a poll of IRC Server Administrators and chat users to get their reaction. This proposal cuts to the heart of who owns the networks, and how much cooperation should they give, also, do police have the right to enter chat networks uninvited.
"The recent proposal outlined by The U.K.'s National Crime Squad (NCS) to monitor Internet chat rooms is not a workable solution, according to Internet chat network owners and administrators. In their statement of 9 June, 2004 the NCS stated that "Uniformed Officers" will enter certain chat rooms, primarily those chat rooms frequented by adults seeking underage children, and have an icon attached to their nickname to identify themselves as law enforcement officers. The F.B.I. is also named as one of the agencies participating in this proposal."

An online vigilante group is harming law enforcement efforts to stop online predators, we have an extensive report regarding this group.
Unrelated question. Is Slashdot having problems, I'm seeing a lot of 503's today.
But I'm having problems accessing Slashdot. When I can connect, I'll post a reply.

Their opening bid is high, and they will bring the price per share down until there is a buyer. At that point, everyone else will buy shares at that price. I think their price per share will be in the 50-60 Dollar range.

One of the arguments the anti-gun folks use is that certain weapons can be converted into fully automatic, high magazine capacity weapons.
In Iraq, Volkswagan Passats (and other makes) are being used as car bombs, so maybe we should outlaw VW's, as they are too easily converted into car bombs.
I'm all in favor of banning razors, long live the beard! (except for women, hairy legs and arm pits are a definite turn off).
I didn't forget the Nigerians, but is it considered spam or a scam. The scam doesn't send out millions of emails, they instead target certain individuals, so I created a DIY Nigerian Scam Template just to see how long it takes for one to get back to me. Nothing since I posted it last year, but it's gotten a few laughs.
I"m going by message headers that I recieve in emails, and that most URL's in spam point to servers in those countries. Fighting spam also means taking down the web sites that they point to.
Granted, a large number of professional spammers are in the USA. What I have not seen covered very much is the new law enacted July 1st here in Florida
that makes sending spam a Class C Felony. Everyone complains about Florida being spammers paradise, and now that Florida is on the track to cleaning up spammers, no one notices.
Here's a good link regarding the choosing of Florida for the space program.

I thought Slashdot Meetup was already doing basically the same thing.
How about more people around Gainesville/North Florida sign up so we can get together.
