I agree.
In fact i would rather have a lightning fast filesystem and use special software to scan and index special data (ID3 tags , Documents info, etc) than have it into the filesystem.
After all, the programs most users use to look up files could very well do such jobs as display Id3 tags and snapshots (eg Nautilus does a good job). Combined with a userspace program that scans and indexes stuff (lets say something "like" GTKtalog ) then you would have a disk that is searchable. Not to mention that if the Userspace program fails you couldn't care less while in a filesystem...
Maybe they could provide a default such program that integrates with Windows Explorer to do the jobs.
Am i missing something? Is there some benefit in a database filesystem that do not understand? (compared to well designed userspace programs)
Mandrake seems to be the best Linux OS for newbies and laptop users.
I don't understand this. Why should we say that Mandrake is for newbiew. Do you mean that it is not good for someone experienced in Linux? If it works out of the box then it MUST be evil is that it?
There are some iritating things about Mandrake, yes (automounter anyone?) but i can not say that it is made for stupid users and does not allow the knowledgable user to do his work. I can install a Mandrake distro and have it running perfectly in much less than Windows or any other distro i have seen. (but i haven't seen them all)
I would like to hear someone come with a good explanation why Mandrake is a Newbie Distro.
I have seen other distros and it all boils down to the same things. If you can do it in one you can do it in the other.
I am afraid that it is the same old thing. When something becomes popular the it must be evil right? If you are not using WeirdUnsusualAmazinglyBizzareDistroFromHell version 0.666 then you are not 31337 right?
Their "team of experts" must consist of :
1) a banker
2) an enginee^H^H^H^H^H^H^H MSCE
3) 3 Marketing droids
4) the woman in the coffe shop across the road
5) and... Dalr McBride who can prove that the Internet contains data that belongs to SCO.
They must have quite the dream team of experts to come to such a conclusion.
Nah. That is too specific.
They will eventually patent "ideas to make money" so if you have an idea on how to make money.. they own it.
They will probably name it "Process of coming up with ideas to make money".
Well you would be true if i could have a CPU and motherboard inside my, but until that blessed day comes the computer case is the ugliest thing in my room:)
Pretty case on my desktop?
You have to be vision impaired to like a plain white box with no distinguishing features.
In fact it's the ugliest thing in my room.
If they are botheres by the people calling them , they should look into that new thing called Do-not-call registry. Maybe they could list the ATA number there.:)
You know what i think is fun?
When this finally blows, everybody will act surprised. People will start making references to scandals of the past. But i am sure it will be news to the world even thought it's been discussed in Slashdot (and other places) to the point where i know more about SCO than my sister.
But you have to admit no small amount of political and religious doctrination goes on there.
hmm.. i never noticed anything like that. Ofcourse the Scout movement is large and i suppose that it may take slightly different forms throught the world. I was a scout in Greece and i can not remember anything political or religious while being a scout. (ok maybe a little religious but this has nothing with the scouts themselves but rather with the general mentality about Church here in Greece)
In fact i doubt it would be permitted given that the scouts are an international body with hierarchy of administration and many regulations.
If they want to be more "hip" then they should improve the part of Windows that users see the most. The BSOD. They should make it animated with sound and some cool phrase , preferably from the list of Windows Haiku.
And fuck all your McGyver comments.
Yeah.. McGyver was too lame. He needed various tools. All you need is a knife.
Oh, and i don't like your making fun of scouts. I was one and we did not do stupid things. We were always ivnolved in community issues, we learned a lot of things like knots, reading flag signs, first aid and a lot of other things. Not to mention that you belong in a community that cherishes "old-fashioned" values like truth , honor, friendship. Most importantly, thought, we had fun.
And one last thing. Your name is not by any chance Mr Bean is it?
He would actually have to be able to do a very good estimation of the hours it would take him to complete a particular target. Otherwise he would ask for amount X thinking that it would take him Y hours but in the process he needed 3Y time only to be paid X.
I don't know how difficult this is. I suppose it depends on how good a programmer you are and how complicated/familiar the subject is.
Chicken Little?
I have no idea what that is.This could just as easily have been Asterix humour. ( the villagers fear nothing except for the sky falling on their heads)
I can't believe Slashdot fell for such lies!
Have you missed the ground-shaking documentary called.... X-files?
Had you watched even parts of this research project you would know that this was a UFO crash site , cleverly disguised as a meteor crash.

Ahh. so is true.Subscribers DO get to see duplicates before others.
I'd better pay up then.
I am Greek and yet i could not understand it. thanks.
She is more scary. I mean, she could EAT the goatse guy
Maybe they are doing testing to ensure the service will be in the usual Microsoft standards in case they are bought.
ataconnect is no longer ... connectable.

The Day Slashdot uses "LOL" in a story, i stop reading it...
I'me afraid it's close..

Naahhh. They just want YOU to use .NEt and Passport. They run THEIR important systems on Linux. (www.microsoft.com)
I mean what could they do:
Us citizen: Could i have a BeOS please?
yellowTab: No! Go away Capitalistic scum! We do this for the honor!
Official NASA statement:
"Oops."
