The first email sent to this address is forwarded to another address...
When did they start doing this? As far as I can remember, the only way to receive it is to go to the website and login with that address (no password). And you're right about the second part. Given that most people supply the email address for the very purpose of receiving email, how can its spamminess be determined accurately?
How many people are holding a gun to your head demanding you send emails to TWO WHOLE PEOPLE you know?
Plus, that can only happen up to 33 times before everyone telling two new people about it reaches the entire world population... and then who do the people at the bottom of the pyramid tell? These chain letters always shaft the last ones in!
This is quite bad idea because you must have UI for setting up smtp, port (proxy?) username, password.... In the end, all most users would see when exception occures is "Unable to connect to SMTP sever x".
Since you want it to report back to *you*, your SMTP server information would be in there, and no username/password would be required. Granted, this may fail in firewalled situations but given a large enough user base you should get enough reports from people who aren't firewalled that it won't matter statistically.
If *you* had insight, you would have realized that he was answering a simple question regarding the difference between the two companies. Seriously... do you expect everything anyone says to be insightful? How is that reasonable? That's like saying "anaesthetica feels sad for people with bumper stickers representing their political philosophy... ooh, what *incredible* genius insight anaesthetica has!" It's easy to characterize someone as being without insight if you take things out of context and heap on some ad hominem. It's tougher to demonstrate insight yourself.
I was going to ask you what the deal was regarding the mention of "Colossus", and after Googling found this site regarding a class action settlement. Interesting stuff -- it would seem that if you're not being treated fairly, don't bother wasting your time. Do not pass go, but go directly to a lawyer. This family went through what sounds like a similar experience to yours and it looks like arbitration resulted in an amount of $377,000 -- and (this is from 2003) they were further suing for breach of contract and anti-consumer practices.
I'm sure those are all the people who *didn't* post. One time years ago I bought a couple of old 40MB Apple SCSI drives from eBay just for the hell of it... I won the auction for $1 (plus shipping, of course). When I got them, I immediately put them in my old server and started formatting. It was only afterwards that I thought to myself, "Damn, I should have checked to see if there was anything on them."
Or "Doesn't anybody remember that there we no WMD ever found in Iraq?" Nuking the place would take care of that nasty little problem of having to produce evidence.
It's easy. You have regular memory to power the computer, and the flash memory is the permanent storage. Make sure the computer has enough battery power to keep the RAM active for several hours, then once every 15 minutes you write the entire RAM contents to flash. Given that flash these days come with 1 million write cycles guaranteed, you can use the same flash memory for 28 years without a problem.
He was less than enthusiastic about the phone - calling it "pretty cool", rather than his usual over-the-top evangelizing, and he looked a bit uncomfortable when using it.
And if you watch the keynote, you'll see how he receives a call saying "it'll resume right back where we stopped the song". Then at the end of the call, he couldn't figure it out and had to start the song over from the beginning, claiming "well, if you push the right button...". Not his usual 100% slick nothing-goes-wrong presentation as it would be with an Apple product. This phone would have been great during the Napster heydays but then again, that's about when the iPod came out.
Just because Longhorn is newer, that doesn't make it better or more secure.
Of course not. You could say this regarding Linux as well. Just because the latest kernel is newer, that doesn't make it better or more secure either. It's because of other factors (push towards security, increased security designed in, etc.) which makes recent Windows and Linux releases more secure.
Yeah, theory and propaganda. The second result, if you Google for the term, would invoke Godwin's Law. Anyway, I'd expect that kind of immature thinking from a child but certainly not from someone who believes himself to be important. Does anyone actually consider him any kind of open source leader or are they too embarassed by his self-gloating?
Don't most of the GPL projects out there keep the phrase "GPL 2.0 or any later version" in their licenses? So you can choose which GPL version to pick. What if GPL 4.0 were very BSD-like, would that mean people could choose to apply it instead of the 2.0 version?
Did you ever notice how science changes its anwsers so damn often. But the Bible stays the same.
That's funny. The Koran stays the same, the Hindu Vedas stay the same, and many other religious texts which have nothing to do with the Christian god stay the same too. Does the quality of being static mean something to you?
When I went to college, they taught some stuff in biology, chemsitry, and physics that is wrong. They graded our papers, and gave us low marks. Why? They did it to everyone. In my Chem class, and "A" was a 38.7%. That is about 4 out of 10 points on a test. The curve was fucking rediculous.
What, exactly, does this have to do with anything? Hundreds of years ago Christians believed the earth was flat and that women should be burned alive. And you're complaining that either you couldn't learn or that your professor couldn't teach?
God said they would persecute us. And they are doing that.
Who are "they"? And what are "they" doing exactly?
I would rather take comfort with God than with the here_today, gone_tomorrow of science.
That's fine. Kids take comfort in teddy bears and imaginary friends too. Would you prefer a static stock market if change is too difficult for you to understand?
Why not live in a happy moral time, with good families, and worthwhile occupations. Why live in horrible times, working for in the factory of an atheist for minimum wage?
False dilemma much? Why not live in a happy non-religious time, where everybody gets along? Why live in the constant fear and guilt that Christianity teaches?
THINK ABOUT IT. WHAT IS DIFFERENT TODAY? NO PENSIONS AT JOBS. NO GOOD JOBS. And there is less of God too. He is letting us know.
Ah yes... that *clearly* is the *only* thing different today. Yes, *nothing else* has changed in history. Any other pearls of wisdom to share, oh swine of knowledge?

Granted they do receive a ton of spam, but isn't the purpose of the site to allow people to request that email be sent there? Ergo: not spam?

Genius business insight there, buddy.

Yeah, all these game developers do is mod the DirectX libraries. Why should I have to pay?
Yeah but then how will the construction crews get in to build the oil pipeline?
:)
If you detonate it right, the oil should flow smoothly over the contours of the glass parking lot without the need for any pipeline.

And still the skeptics believe that a Creator rather than chance created us.

Sounds like a senior project for an Audio/Electircal Engineer. Thanks for the idea.
;-)
No problem... you just owe me a copy when it's done, and a share of the royalties after we co-file the patent.
How about a radio frequency scanner which scans whatever music is playing and transcribes it to sheet music?
NBAD?
National Bank of Abu Dhabi?
National Bass Association of the Deaf?
Oh, wait... Network Behavior Anomaly Detection -- for those who didn't know.

And thus we see why slashdot people are not in marketing.
Yeah, no kidding. This thing has *way* less space than most other products. Oh, and no wireless. Lame.

Ah, that brings back memories of something from a year ago ... Eliza vs. Pizza Hut.
And also keep in mind that you can't fix slashdot's server-side code/configuration using CSS.
BSD license. Works well for OpenSSH.
