Way to go EMI, yeah, I'm sure that you taking action against him, and the stores selling it and the websites distributing it is going to stop it from spreading. I'm sure that these actions will kill any desire anybody might have for listening to this.
Oh wait....it won't. In fact, I wasn't even aware of this album until now, but I'll be sure to grab it off my favorite P2P client tonight, simply because you don't want me to listen to it.
Maybe EMI should take a look at how well the War on Drugs or Prohibition worked.
What a troll.
"But if you want someone that really understands music, then, you need someone who actually knows how to play a real musical instrument."
Right, because I'm sure all the DJs out there have no clue how music works. Maybe you should try spinning sometime, and maybe you would how much musical understanding you really need in order to be a good DJ. Not only do you have to know a lot of musical theory in order to make a halfway decent mix that sounds concrete, you also need to be quite good at keeping track of both songs (or in some case 3, or in some case other things like a 404) because you need to be able to figure out the precise place to start mixing the two together.
Tons of people have invested just as much into being a DJ as people who play instruments do. In fact, if you want to look at it in purely financial terms instead of that and time, then I'll bet the DJ spends quite more to get their setup and records.
Your post was insulting to DJs as well as having no valid points at all.
"He asked "can I have your name and address?" And I said, "no, you can have $499 plus tax". He started telling me how the computer "requires" it.. Gimme a break."
Wow, you sure showed him! Of course it makes sense that the clerk behind the counter REALLY wants to harass you and steal your information. What a big man you are for giving him that snide answer.
In all seriousness, these people don't give two shits about you or your privacy. They just don't want to be yelled at/fired by their bosses, which they WILL be if they don't do what the company tells them to do. The company tells them to collect information. And who are you to say whether or not their computer system allows you to bypass that part? Have you worked on a Circuit City register before?
"Why bother accosting people at random when your RFID gun tells you the little old lady on the corner is toting around $5,000 in cash?"
FINALLY! A synergy of technologies that actually makes sense! Screw all those cellphones with cameras, I want a gun that tells me how much money someone has on them so I know who to mug!
I was waiting for someone to bring this up. While I'm a PC fan (I'm a gamer), Apple does have the edge here. Seriously, for those of you with decent gaming setups, do you remember the last time you played a game on a 15" monitor? I don't see why the hell they couldn't just make it a 17" machine. I understand it would way a tad more, and be a bit more expensive, but look at who uses this. They're obviously willing to carry a 9 lb. laptop, whats a few more ounces. And if this thing already goes for a cool $3350, do you really think most of the people who can afford to drop this money on a gaming laptop really care about a price difference of a couple hundred dollars? No, of course they wouldn't. So I say to Dell, if you really wanted to put out a no holds barred high end gaming laptop, you shouldn't have skimped on monitor size. Pretty graphics aren't as pretty when they're super small.
You know.....its funny you should mention GTA3, because the other day I was driving in the parking lot outside of the grocery store when a woman and her child started to walk past the front of my car (no crosswalk or stop sign, I swear!) and while it was near impossible for me to hit them, I came much closer than the lady thought comfortable and she proceeded to give me a salty look and say something which I didn't hear. Later on I realized that I have developed such a mentality from driving games where:
"You can come as close as you want without bad things happening as long as you don't actually touch it. You could even be a pixel away."
Unfortunately, people in the real world have larger "personal spaces" than people in GTA3. Whoops.
I understand that, my point was the attitude she was giving my father. This is supposed to be a classy store, and there's certain expectations of how one will be treated in it which she clearly was not meeting.
What REALLY pisses me off though is that lots of websites which SHOULD be using it to distribute the newest demos/patches/mods *cough*bf42.com*cough* DON'T. The reason is because if they don't list the.torrent, then it drives traffic to their marketing partners websites, where the user would view ads and generate revenue, or possibly sign up for membership.
It's so pathetic that on a site where the staff frequently posts in threads where people have requested torrent links, you almost NEVER see a torrent link for a new popular mod. Greedy bastards.
Amen to that. BT has been so successful with the anime fansubbing community that its been yanking people in DROVES off of IRC. Hell, I used to be a member of Anime Fury, which later became Phoenix Anime and Seichi Fansubs, and I almost NEVER go there anymore unless I'm looking for something hard to find thats older or licensed (yeah yeah I know). Animesuki.com has also played a large part of the revolution as it is pretty much THE central database for all of the trackers. And its really nice to see fans and the industry they give money to working hand in hand. The anime companies have been very good about politely asking groups to stop subbing something when it got licensed and almost every single group (there's a handful of rogues) listens. And Animesuki.com removes the torrents from the list, so no more easy access to them (hence me going back to IRC every now and then).
It's also really nice because with bittorrent enabling you to stick with regular webpage formatting, anime sites are now able to link to the.torrent for the file, and links for summaries of the series, and the groups fansubbing it. It's all extremely fascinating how this is being adopted so quickly.
"an old girlfriend loved the mirror in my apartment because for some reason it flattered her coloring - she just looked better in the mirror than she actually did."
"In fact, I doubt most of them would want to see a picture of their behinds because they'll suddenly start feeling fat or something. What they want is for the salesgirl to say "Oh, yes, you look fabulous in that! And so slim! And that color really brings out your eyes! Yes, it's really you!"
BZZZZZT!!! WRONG!!!! Their typical customers are very adept socially. They are typically attractive, have decent fashion sense, and would want to feel satisfied they look right in the clothes. They EXPECT the salesperson to treat them like that regardless of how much truth there is to it. That's half the reason they come to these stores, is because they know they'll be waited on hand and foot by a bunch of Yes-Men/Women.
You jest about the mirror, but I'm waiting to see some true innovation in dressing rooms that would provide such a feature. As well as video feeds of your sides, and whatever angles you want. This could all be displayed on a tiled screen.
Then you need a conveyor belt. How cool would it be if you wanted to you could just try walking in something in the dressing room and see how it looks from every angle?
They have the technology, and most stores have only a few dressing rooms so it shouldn't be TOO expensive. Hmmmm, maybe I should invent this and sell it to them.
Don't worry, this technology would let them cross reference your customer purchasing history with that of a network of stores, such as Radio Shack and enable the security to know when people like you enter the store, thus stopping the rich, beautiful, sexually carnivorous girls from ever having to deal with you.
Wow....I didn't expect to see this kind of humor on Slashdot. And about Barney's, their workers really are that brutal. I was at one where my father purchased something, and he wanted to put it on two seperate credit cards. The checkout girl gave him shit for that, and then proceeded to ask him for something to verify his signature. He pointed to the back of the card (it was somewhat faded) and the clerk DEMANDED to see another form of identification.
Now, whatever the reasoning behind it, and regardless of whether or not it was a smart thing for her to ask to confirm the signature, the fact that she DEMANDED in such an indignant fashion definitely helped shape my current impression of their store, as much as I like the shades of blue one of the lines they carry uses.
Hmmm, I must've missed the Gap store where the average male customer wants to see scantily clad women. Perhaps I'm just basing this off the Gaps in Minneapolis and San Francisco.

Anybody else kind of offended by the subject of scooby snacks? Gee....thanks for throwing us a bone Michael....such journalistic integrity.
Is it just me, or is this game companies looking to try to move us to the pay per play model? I mean....I think the only thing this can lead to is them making a series ridiculously long just to milk it. I guess this could work with something thats EXTREMELY story driven. But i'll be damned if I'm going to cough up money for the next episode of a game which is merely hack n slash.
" It allows the companies who are willing to pay a chance to get some brand awareness with groups they wouldn't ordinarily conect with and it's not intrusive."
Your words couldn't have been more relevant. I work in advertising, and Madison Avenue is desperate as hell to figure out where exactly the 18-35 male demographic went, because they're sure as hell not watching TV anymore. Many people say they're on the internet or playing computer games or PS2, and an article in the New York Times Magazine said that a lot are watching Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
So yes, this is unfortunately (hey, I'm a gamer first and foremost) going to mean that the video game industry is going to have a lot more attention from my industry than before. Sorry guys.
Wow, I really hope you stay modded at 1...I'm still trying to download hehehe. Thanks!

Emphasis Mine.
