I used to be a switcher for a local PBS affiliate. In the old days network shows ALWAYS started exactly on the hour or half hour right down to the second. You could literally set your clock to a start of a network show.
The first network I noticed which deviated from this was MTV. I'd tune in to watch Daria, which was supposed to start at 10:00, only to discover that it had already been going for ten minutes.
But it's pretty clear that all networks do it now. Just last week I sat my son down to watch a Scooby Doo movie set for 7:00. It had already started a full 15 minutes earlier!
Now when I set up a record on my homebuilt PVR, I set it to start 15 minutes early and an additional 15 minutes late.
I'd love to make a joke about affirmative action and BPT, but I'm too politically correct for that.
So essentially, it's legal for you to buy it but illegal for you to use it. Interesting. I'm really surprised I didn't hear that Kafka won the election!
Because it would have to be at least as good to give an incentive to buy. People are not going to buy video cards which less features and higher costs MERELY because they're open source. Both nVidia and ATI offer Linux support. Both nVidia and ATI offer low cost lower-end cards. What is going to be the advantage to the AVERAGE Linux user in not buying nVidia or ATI?
Sure there will be some Linux users who would love to mess around with fully open source drivers, but considering that Linux users only make up about 5% of over all users, and considering that Linux users who would demand open source video drivers would only make up about 5% of that, I don't see much of a market.
Yeah, it COULD happen. But it will also be crap. Does anyone really think a company could simply start competing with nVidia or ATI on features and power?! Heck, 3dfx couldn't do it. Matrox essentially gave up. And what about Virge?! Dare I even mention bitboys?!

Now that you mentioned it, I think you're right. I remember seeing episodes of South Park on the net back in the late 90s. That was WAY before movies could be downloaded.

Apple survives on getting people to pay very high prices for cool looking products. Once Apple gets people buying iPods, it would only make sense that those same sheeps would also start buying overpriced but pretty Macs.
Sure it's flamebait, sure it's troll, but it's also true... and you know it.
That's like a highway where it's legal to speed, but takes you nowhere. That's like a legal drug, that doesn't get you high. That's like stealing your own stuff! Where's the fun in that?!
The longer we live, the greater the chances we have of eventually getting laid!

I buy a fair amount of music but I've yet to find even one with a copy protection system on it. I guess I've been lucky.
Yeah, only in America is it legal to copy music but illegal to hold down the shift key!
In the US it is perfectly legal to rip purchased CDs into MP3 format for non-commerical use.
... but at least it was tastefully done.
nVidia did NOT come out of nowhere. nVidia was founded in 1993! And ATI was founded in 1985 and dominated the OEM market before 3dfx even existed!!!

Come one folks, let's get real.
... the Air Force will get a red, white, and blue screen of friendly fire!
Oops. It's bad enough when I don't read the article, but when I don't even read the blurb!
I don't have a cell phone and never will!

Yeah, but on the other hand TV mostly sucks.
I was kidding.
We all know that once Intel turns is back, Asia's going to reformat and install warez versions of Windows XP!
Well he was certainly wrong about the election!
Back on December 26, 2002, Robert X. Cringely stated this would happen.
...in a free speech zone?!

"Who they gonna sue?"
And if the FBI was involved, who would they arrest?!
You're not aruging in support of your position, you're only arguing that the law is not simple.
