While I realize that the game still has a long ways to go, I think that the galaxy stage, lacking any real goal, also has the potential to get boring quickly, like Sim Earth. Although there is a trend towards more open ended games, has there ever been a successful game that hasn't had an (or several) ultimate goal(s)? Even in the Sims, there was the implied goal to create a more and more successful family--but what would be the goal as the controller of a godlike spacecraft? Unless there was competition between other space-faring creatures or something, I just think doing the War of the Worlds/The Day the Earth Stood Still/First Contact things Wil mentions would get old pretty fast.
I'd hate to, as psychologists suggest we do, singly support the argument I agree with, excluding counter arguments, but if I could, I would have modded you up. This is too poignant a counter-argument to remain at a score of 1
Evil mutating viruses... teleportation... using game concept to make a "horror" movie... I can't see how they could be more ironic by choosing the title as Doom.
Let's see... we've got Resident Evil, but then we have Super Mario Bros., Mortal Kombat(1&2), Tomb Raider(I&2), Street Fighter(I&2), Double Dragon, Wing Commander, Final Fantasy, and, of course, House of the Dead, ignoring any of the pokemon movies and their ilk.
I'm probably forgetting a couple, but here's the point. Movies tell stories, and how many of the list above have actual stories. ie. not The president's daughter has been kidnapped! You must rescue her! or You must destroy the evil karate master through a series of fights at bizarre locations, but only if you know the correct button combos! Staying true to these sort of games is destined for disappointment. Final Fantasy and Wing Commander had vast worlds of story to deal with, but look what resulted.
I've only played through the original Metroid and Super Metroid, but if a Metroid movie compares to the games the way the above movies compare to their respective games, I have a bad feeling Metroid may be a cross between Mario and Tomb Raider.
They are totally orthogonal. Anybody who believes differently has been fooled by McCarthy's propoganda.
All I know is that a communistic democracy would travel in circles.
The article really only gives summary of what IM is and does without really looking at the impacts as the title may suggest. When 75% of teenagers and 50% of adults online are using/have used IM of some sort(and I'm sure the percentage is higher for/.ers), who is this article targeted towards?

Hmm my vaporware senses are going off too, especially when these new stun guns work at an optimum of only 1-2 meters, at a success rate of about 37%

You can't hug your children with nuclear arms!
