Seriously. If we really wanted to "save daylight" we'd be IN DST during the winter, NOT during the summer WHEN WE HAVE THE MOST DAYLIGHT!!! Besides, you can't "make more daylight" or even "save" it. The amount of daylight is set by the orbit of the Earth around the sun and the Earth's axial tilt, NOT by some arbitrary clock setting. All DST does is de-tune people from the natural rhythms of nature. It's illusory and false. That is all. .... by the way, how the heck does one get a carriage return to actually work in these comments. my paragraphs always get run together ...... :D

They could attempt to shut down DNS servers, etc .... but geeks and hackers would have it back up in no time. Your general tech-ignorant user may not be able to ... i don't know ... use Netflix or watch porn (oh, wait ... that would pop right back up too ;^p ) ........ but the 'net cannot be 'shut down', as it were. What a silly idea. Especially for the reasons given for the need. However, the lines over which it runs still exist, so there's nothing to stop (and nothing CAN stop) people from booting up new DNS servers, etc ... if some sort of 'kill switch' attempt was made. Just. Not. Possible. Period. Geeks and hackers BUILT and DESIGNED the internet .... and they will keep it alive. period. exclamation point. It's worth stating again (and again) that THE INTERNET WAS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED SO IT COULD NOT BE SHUT DOWN. ... besides which, there's always the darknet ....

  9. Re:Hells yea... on Does the Moon Have Military Value? · · Score: 1

The moon hasn't "fallen" into the ocean recently because it's moving fast enough that it's constantly "falling" over the horizon of Earth. That's how an orbit works. The moon is near the top of Earth's gravity well, and in that sense it IS downhill; and while it has it's own gravity to deal with to get anything into Earth's influence, that doesn't take a helluva lot of energy comparatively, and the proper trajectory is easily calculable.
