Now days, the good jobs go to some guy with 12 years experience on his resume and a couple degrees, and everything else goes to some shop in another country. I'm not actually against outsourcing in all regards, but those of us still in school, or just getting out, are left out of the loop, even though we are often better coders than the others.
Once BIOS supports booting from them, USB pen distros will be really nice. Read and write, and now a whole 5 gig on something easier to transport than a CD.
I don't really care enough about what happens to my e-mail after I die to bother with all that crap. I don't really think anybody really is going to need my encrypted data after I died, or they would have had a key while I was alive.
Blender has got to be right up there among the best of the F/OSS software. It may not have all the features of 3d studio max, but for beginner and intermediate modellers, or people with no artistic talent, it kicks ass!
The controls are a bit hard to learn, though the interface has been getting better recently. In the end, once you read through the tutorials and learn all the keyboard commands you will find them to be great.
I use Linux on almost all my systems, but nothing can cut the security I get using OpenBSD on my firewalls and routers. I can't wait for SMP support to be working.
Really, why is it such a big deal for them to take pictures of everyones license plates as they drive through? It's not like they are putting a camera in your home and making sure your wife's headlights aren't out.
People get so worked up over a bunch of cameras...but theses cameras are in public places, people are supposed to be able to see you there!
Yeah looks fine in Firefox. One thing I was actually impressed with was their use of CSS. In Firefox you can switch between the stylesheets, they offer multiple text sizes, and a layout stripped of most graphics. The button to switch them in firefox is in the bottom left corner.
The color scheme may not be great, but the use of CSS is above average (though that is no use at all often).
On most distros with a packaging system, releases don't affect you much, as you can install newer packages and stay up to date, so who cares when the next iso comes out.
Maybe im wrong about how things work over on debian, im a gentoo user, bite me.
If you are going to go through all that work to reformat the documents, it seems more reasonable to go to an XML/XSLT system. For documentation projects XML is the way to go, so it can be viewed great in many applications.
Before you start whining that "it wont work in my browser," remember, there are several solution where the stylesheet is applied server side, and the page can be servered as plain old html.

Just make sure you are programming cool stuff, like games, and your kid will be happy to have the betas. :)

Which continent is Usenix on? I've never even heard of that country.
Tell me when they add 2 more inches (maybe they should talk to spammers).

Probably not so much that it matters...but all my boxes are SMP, so why not take advantage of it when you can :)

I'd say the opposite, a lot of enterprise users want to squeeze out every last drop of performance they can get.
Somehow I read this as DNA Computer Defects [...]

Now not only will people be talking on their phones in their cars, they will be holding them up to the radio and turning up the volume!
if you are sending something so important you are afraid of google checking it against adwords, use your own server, or encrypt it.

Excellent, this will make it so much easier for people to track down my details!
