  1. Fuel Cells... on Batteries Continue To Suck · · Score: 4, Interesting

There is actually a real use of these, see http://www.ballard.com/tD.asp?pgid=700&dbid=0

Its pretty cool, because you always hear about fuel cells, but almost never see a commercial application.

Hopefully once they make it smaller...

  2. Good Marketing Feature... on New Graphics Company, With Working Cards · · Score: -1, Redundant

The board only uses half of the installed RAM as it shares it.

So they can claim 256 MB of RAM, even though its effectively 128 MB of RAM...

  5. Everything Iraq.... on White House Website Limits Iraq-Related Crawling · · Score: 4, Informative

It looks like 99% of the stuff related to Iraq is filtered out in robots.txt.

But not a problem, on google.com I just specify the site by saying 'Iraq site:whitehouse.gov' and it had 14,000 hits... the first one is the root of /infocus/iraq directory (which is dissallowed in robots.txt)

Why exactly then, is it on Slashdot?

Not only that, but the "heatsinks" are useless. There is almost no gain of surface area, just the tiny amount that is the thickness of the metal.

The temperature is reduced because the large slabs take longer to heat up, as looking at the graphs he didn't wait for them to go steady state, he just waited an hour.

And with geocaching you've just got your GPS, a compass, and maybe a topographic map (if you can get one). None of this fancy cell phones with internet to tell you answers stuff ;-)

The HD failed eventually... but after many a trips to the floor! Only hit concrete a few times, mostly hit carpet. When it failed it was just sitting there, but I guess it couldn't take the abuse :p
