  1. Saturation on iTV Standard v1.1 Released · · Score: 1

...is when the media are placing ads within ads, when interactive really means free marketeering, which seems to be the real advantage of this system.

  2. Can I... on A Tale in the Desert · · Score: 2, Funny
It is all about cooperation to unlock the knowledge of Egypt.

Can I assemble a team to excevate under the sphinx and haul out that hidden chest? Can I find a hidden chamber where if I place my staff correctly the sunlight will illuminate a path from the medallion down to the secret resting place of the Ark of Covenant?

  3. Ati is a *lot* better in 2003 on SMP-Oriented Video Card Round-up · · Score: 2, Interesting
While the author qualifies his conclusion with "Unfortunately, due to the rather long, and, I'm afraid, unavoidable delays in publishing this article...The video card market has simply advanced too far", he then goes on to say "On the other end of the spectrum, there's the erratic performance of the ATi cards. Whether it they were limping along behind even the G550 in Solidworks, or taking 75% performance hits with dualhead enabled in many of the SPECviewperf tests, we were left shaking our heads. There's no denying that ATi's drivers have come a long way in the past few years, but it seems as if they have yet to reach nVidia's level. "

well newsflash they have skyrocketed past them with the r9500. Anyone who has been following the release of GeforceFX knows that the seven month ati card holds its own against the nv30, which Nvidia have decided to stop making before it even hits the shelves as the performance gap is so stunning.

  4. William Gibson on Slashback: Regalia, Godseye, Undetection · · Score: 1

was awesome when he wrote neuromancer, no doubt about it. These days the tech has taken a back row seat, and character relationship dymanics are in the front. Much more techy stuff is being written by the next gen of writers (or is it the gen after the next gen?) such as Neal Stephenson, writer of Cryptonomicon, and Quicksilver, which is due for release next month.

  5. who's going to be downloading? on FTP: Better Than HTTP, Or Obsolete? · · Score: 1

Who are your users? If you are supplying 1-6mb pdf's of recipes for housewifes you probably don't want to use ftp...it will just create confusion and complicate the user experience. If, on the other hand, you are sharing custom software then you can guess that your users will be more experienced with computers and comfortable using ftp.

  7. 4.5 years dev means.. on Sony's MMORPG "Sovereign" Dead · · Score: 4, Informative

Sorry but thats just to long. 4.5 years ago (1998 July)the tools to develop (geforce?) and the platforms available (win98 etc)limit the possibilites available to the dev team. We see this currently with games like Duke Nukem, (..waiting...) and Doom3 where the stated goal for system compatibility is GF3 and higher.

I am sure some elements of the game are able to be reused, however all the coding and optimization would have to be redone to suit current systems, meaning more time spent waiting. "the magic wasnt really there" is a shocker statement though...was the concept good or not? If it wasnt scratch the game. 4.5 years sheesh, the intial code is obselete before the 4th years even begun!

  8. AI on Command and Conquer Generals Released · · Score: 1

..slightly off topic but I would like to see this kind of game optimized for dual processors, to take advantage of extra clock cycles to speed up AI calculations. Does anyone know what game companies have planned to take advantage of AMD's Hammer?

  9. Marketing on Intel Announces New, Slower, Chip · · Score: 1

So Intel introduce a new chip that underperforms the best Celeron, I mean we all know its the Mhz that count right? Well that was the reason NOT to buy AMD, so it will be really interesting to see how Intel markets this chip.
