SupercoverInsurance IS the competition to the insurance pushed by the sales guy.
They claim 48 hour claim processing. Which is just the time it takes them to go "oh, you want to claim". They ask you to send your phone back with a bank note sized piece of bubblewrap - like the postal service isn't going to damage the phone with that little packing.
Their policy does cover malicious damage though - so its not like they're not aware that people will deliberately damage stuff. (covers accidental, liquid, malicious damage)
Why watch a DVD when you can watch streaming media.
We're doing less and less directly on our PC these days - its all moving to the net. Webmail, Google Docs, YouTube, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, etc. So for the majority of the general public they don't want a quad-core 32GB box which can play Crysis at 80fps. They want something they can read their funny online comics, watch some video & email granny on.
ARM chips have been running Linux well in consumer devices for over 10 years, so its not as if they need to do much.
Texas was 'invaded' by settlers who then instigated the rebellion against Mexico. Hawaii's royal kingdom was otherthrown by invading US marines. Its this invasion & occupation which some of the anti-Obama people said was a reason he shouldn't be allowed to stand as Hawaii was not a legal state was it was an illegally occupied sovereign state.
They awarded the contract for the new refuelling tanker, but as it was a European Airbus with US parts stuck inside it some Representatives complained and got the process restarted.... Well done for screwing up the system guys. Open global markets - except when its local jobs for local people.
Something like a nuclear powered ion drive - like the one they wanted to use on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Prometheus ? Use that as a delivery system to drop stuff off around the solar system. Mining asteroids would be automated/remote controlled - put the ore into crates to be picked up the next time Prometheus swings by that area.
'Easy' to get to and provide potential for resources.
While getting hit by an asteroid isn't that common - we've been hit in the past by big objects from space and its a world changing event. Personally, I'd like it not to change so I can stay living here.
Reading the article (I know, but someone has to:-) ) it seems that it wasn't a Science Fair project, it was just something the kid had been playing around with at home and then brought it in to show his friends. The kid violated school policies and that is why they said he should get counselling.
So the school has a policy banning kids from being inventive and wanting to show that inventiveness off. Anyway - thats one kid the school system has scared off technology - well done San Diego Unified School District.
Surely it would have been good marketing for Starbucks to have dropped Mexico a load of money for the upkeep of these historic sites. It seems that they did approach the Mexicans over the rights to use the images but then went ahead with the project before getting a reply.
Pieces of artwork are covered under different laws to basic copyright. eg. Try selling copies of the Mona Lisa without The Louvre getting on your case about it.
Deluxe were unable to provide keys or validate the keys they had provided. The supplier was unable to provide working copies of the movie.
So a phone line being down, or a network card dropping to 10Mbit/s or whatever the technical problems was causes movie viewers all over a country to not be able to watch a movie, for which all the data is already within the theater.
Young kids doing their compulsory military service forced to be border guards getting crap from a visitor. I can see them getting flustrated enough to "stick to the rules and follow procedure".
Busybox is used for setting up the ethernet interface most devices seem to have these days and to manage the internal filesystem most devices have for caching & downloadable content. Well thats what its for in the box I have. I wish they'd activated the HTTP server in Busybox aswell as then I could have some access to the content on the box from elsewhere on my home network.
Its not that difficult to comply with the GPL. I've been emailing Humax for the last year (since I bought one of their digital TV STB) to get hold of the code in accordance with the GPL and they've either sent me a manual for a different device, told me that they didn't need to provide the code as I was unable to update the firmware myself so its useless me having any source code.
They do provide some GPL code for a box they sell in Germany though - but not the UK one, and there is no mention of using GPL code in their manuals.
If you want to try and get anything GPL related out of Humax you can try emailing them gnu@humaxdigital.com (who never reply) support@humaxdigital.com (who say they don't need to provide the code and can't even C&P a name properly)
No-one is forcing you to buy additional hardware - if you have the games already then you have the hardware to play them on - the original handheld consoles.
Want to play Tetris - play it on your GameBoy - it uses less power than your PC and its portable too. Golden Sun - play it on your GameBoyAdvance.
Except that certain countries copyright law states that you have the right to make a backup copy of computer system media. A console is still a computer system.
That standby time is taken up with training, skills updating, paperwork, education, etc.
Your local firecrew will be doing educational trips to schools, installing smoke detectors in public & low-cost housing, training on new equipment, reading up and practacing on new procedures. Its not all sitting in the firehouse watching DVDs and sleeping.
Keeping those accused anonymous to the public until the conviction helps prevent jury prejudice from what they see in the media.
How can you expect a jury not to be influenced by what they is in the media before they sit for the trial.
Open Source licenses are valid - no matter how much they give away they are not public domain.
Thank you everyone involved for getting this judgement.

Android already has emulators for lots of old computers, consoles & arcade machines - you just need to supply your own ROMs
The old Nokia 6210 could almost last that kind of usage.
14 days on standby, 3 -5days with regular (not constant) use.
But it was a phone - you could text, you had Snake on it as a game and that was it.
No 3G, no data, no email, web browsing, VoIP....
Or they could have moved to one of the other EU countries which allow free movement & residency of EU citizens and then home school their kids there.
This way they move to the US and draw attention to the German laws.
Whats wrong with packing all the religious nuts off to the New World - its traditional. Europe has been doing it for the last 400 years. :-)

You have to wonder which KoolAid fountain they were drinking from when they wrote that line....
The core components of Mac OSX & the iPhone OS are taken from open source.
Thats because Apple gets you to use a Mac to develop iPhone apps and nearly all developers have a sideline of making iPhone apps.

I'm going to wait for the 6th version to come along. :-)
I was to see the video footage it takes of "Attack Ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion"

So national law trumps Nintendo EULA.

But he was saying he was waiting 10 mins for web pages to load - not SMS messages.
