    Not Opera Software.

    Linux/PPC, Linux/SPARC, FreeBSD/i386, and Solaris/SPARC are all supported.

    Flash is usually easy to get working. In fact, with Opera, it's preconfigured, as Opera bundles a Flash binary for the platforms that support it.

    The main problem is fonts, which are a total PITA to get configured when running on Linux.

    That's because Opera for Mobile (of which Opera Mini is a version of) is the company's bread and butter.

    It'll be licensed to carriers and phone manufacturers (among other things, such as TV stations), who will then decide on the pricing strategy - TV2, the first company to license it (a Norwegian TV station) elected to offer it for free.

    and Opera doesn't show any of the menus (coded in javascript).

    Browser JavaScript is your friend.

    8.50 has it enabled by default, unlike 8.02, where you have to manually edit an INI to enable it.

    Chances are, this menu was one that specifically disabled itself on Opera. Browser JavaScript disables the browser detection routines on menus and such that target Opera specifically. And, if it doesn't work, try Help>Report a site problem...

    Opera 8.50 (Win32): 3.7MB (that's the largest Opera Win32 final release ever, FWIW)

    Firefox 1.0.6 (Win32): 4.7MB

    Just take that into consideration. Now, I don't know whether FF 1.5 is bigger or smaller...

    While Netcaptor was the first to have tabbed browsing, Opera was the first to have MDI.

    Also, there's only a few MDI browsers, even today, and (AFAICT) Opera's the only one that isn't IE-based. (Granted, all those IE-based MDI browsers could be turned into Gecko-based browsers with a simple mod - ditto for IE itself)

    Netscape 1.0N wasn't for commercial use - read: not free for everyone.

    Internet Explorer was the first commercial browser that was "free" - in this case, as in you already bought the OS, so you get the browser for free. (although, wasn't IE already on Mac OS by then?)

    The reason the number of Google searches has gone down is that the boycott of Google by ham radio operators, shortwave listeners, CB users and other radio hobbyists has started to show its effect.
    While I am one of the most vocal of them, many have quietly persuaded their family and friends to use other search engines.
    This is an effort to stop Googles support of Broadband over Power Lines, a misserable failure in all of its tests because it interfers with radio communtications around the world.

    Proprietary batteries most definitely DO exist.

    Got a cell phone? Open the battery compartment. Does it have AAs, or is it a proprietary battery form factor?

    Got an SP or a DS? Ditto.

    Got an iPod? That's one of the worst cases.

    Laptops are bad about this, too.

    NiMH AAs all the way for simple consumer electronics... (preferably with a built-in NiMH/NiCad charge circuit, though, so I don't have to take them out if I don't want to)

    Which goes to my idea. An ARM virtual machine. Should work fine, seeing as this has an ARM9-class CPU, which supports all of the instructions of the ARM7 in the GBA, IIRC.

    So, only the graphics hardware, controls, and I/O would be emulated. The processor wouldn't be emulated at all.

    I may not know French, but I know when I'm being sent to a "wrong browser" page for running Opera.

    Also, I see that the 110L isn't even AVAILABLE in the US, Windows or Linux. It looks like a Latitude version of the 2200, from the specs... something to take a potshot at the R50e's that Lenovo's been churning out (for cheaper than a 2200, for that matter)...

    Hmm... I'm assuming that the Broadcom chipset is an ordinary PCI Broadcom chip used in standard Mini-PCI wifi cards?

    ndiswrapper to get a Windows driver running, QEMU to get ndiswrapper running.

    Yep. 1995 Chevy Silverado 3500. The stereo's got a "SCV" (speed compensated volume) control with five settings (off, low, medium, high, and very high). Then, of course, there's the regular volume knob. The volume knob sets base volume (read: what the volume is at at 0MPH or with SCV turned off).

    The way they describe it, it [b]HAS[/b] to be USB Mass Storage.

    It looks like there's an iPod dock as well, though, so it might have a way to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

    Something tells me it's a VERY simple system reading from a USB mass storage controller, and feeding MP3s (and AACs - it'd have to, seeing as there's an iPod dock) into a codec chip.

    That's why you park them. Simply leave them hanging off of one pin.

    Also, there's nothing evil about DIP switches, they simply cost more. And, mobo manufacturers will go cheap when they can get away with it.

    Novell makes an alternate winlogon.exe for their networks.

    Basically, it's kinda similar to the regular winlogon, except it's got Novell logos, and it's got things to connect to Novell instead of Windows networks.

    You want ImageMagick, then.

    Then again, I can't figure out the fscking syntax for convert...

    And, IM fscks up a Windows system, because it uses convert.exe to do it's dirty work. Program Files is higher in the path than WINNT\System32, it seems. So, let's say you've got a FAT partition on a Windows system with ImageMagick installed. You wish to convert this FAT partition to NTFS. MS says to type "convert C: /fs:ntfs" (IIRC). With ImageMagick installed, that doesn't work - you have to find the convert.exe from Microsoft.

    Fewer concurrent connections (10, IIRC), but also no virtual server support.

    However, ASP.NET stuff is good to go - that's what the desktop version of IIS is for, testing web apps on IIS without setting up (and paying for) a real server.

    What Windows version are you running?

    2000 and XP Pro have IIS as an optional component. Go to Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, and add IIS.

    2000 and 2003 Servers (except I think there's a file/print-server only 2003 edition) install IIS by default, IIRC. If not, follow those instructions.

    Note that the current version of IIS (6.x) is only available on Server 2003 - IIS 5.0 is all you get on the desktop OSes (actually, a crippled version) and 2000 Server.

    As for Visual Studio... go to a college bookstore, and buy a copy of a textbook for something like VB or VC#. It should come with it. Also, MS has a 30-day trial for $5.
