Ok ok ok... It's a laptop with a HUGE screen, we got that. But why on earth does it have to be this ugly? It's got at least 5 shades of gray on various different panels just on the keyboard panel. It looks like it was put together from 15 other smaller laptops.
I think acer should definately start "borrowing" some ideas from Apple. Visually appalling...
The difference is that your operating system should be as lightweight as possible so you can run more programs... If XP was like a huge game with my processor on 100% activity, how would I run photoshop?.. well I wouldn't
Maybe I'm just stupid (ok, I admit, that's given)... but what is 'IS'. You mention 'IS' 18 times in that lengthy explaination without once mentioning what it stands for...
Even though you're talking about something scientific, i'd like to point out that there is a very high demand for low-noise computers in the home-recording scene. (Low noise also equals low hum/shaking of the machine)
Phil Rees computers are built to be extrimely quiet (and frankly i think your mouse makes more noise that one of these computers. www.philrees.co.uk
I don't know if this helps.. probably better than most of these troll answers.
That's like saying "how about making people learn to drive better" instead of making cars with seatbelts and guard rails for roads... at least the way i see it...
I've also been programming in PHP for some time. I've developed a rather good class library which I always use. I do everything template based and all my database stuff (except writing the sql queries themselves) are object oriented.
Even with all this, I feel I'm programming faster, but still I can't get anything architected properly. I've examined hundreds of open source PHP classes and apps (freshmeat & phpclasses), but none of them really use a good architecture.
I'm beginning to feel like it's not possible to write well architected apps in PHP.
I'm a very experienced delphi programmer, also, and doing good architecture is a lot easier in a non-request based development.
Since everything always has to be loaded and parsed in each and every request, I'm beginning to feel you really CAN'T create a good structure/architecture in a request based world like php. Everything always ends up dirty (at least in some areas).
I wish I was wrong, and I wish some of the comments above had disproved this, but they haven't. Actually, even though I don't want to start a flamewar, I really just don't think most PHP programmers know what a good architecture feels like, and that's mirrored in the way the comments above sound, even though some of them claim they have good architecture. Sorry.
when i first got a PC, and was playing 3d shoot'em'ups for the first time, most games frightened me to death.
I remember doom being scary on some parts, but the first game that got me so scared, that i'm still scarred in my heart and I do not dare to go out alone when it's dark, is DEFINATELY system shock 1. wow, just the first level. I never had the guts to go through one of the first corridors. I can still remember...
now a days, all games are so darn bright and shiny and so much "action", not enough scary stuff that makes you afraid because you have no way of killing them.
We need more dark games. Deus Ex is the game that comes closest to that experience.
I'm hoping doom 3 will be frightening enough, less action, more "being afraid".
"with great ownership comes great responsibilties"
almost the case here.
If they own everything on their servers, they also have to take full responsibilities for it. So if some client uploaded a bunch of kiddie-porn on their servers, they automatically own it, and thus take full responsibility and the client could actually tell the cops, and they would have pay the price...
Another client could actually break into their computers, mess everything up, and all they couldn't make him liable for anything.
If I understand this correctly, they are simply shooting themselves in the foot... or groin.. or something
well... i'm the typical sceptic, and my sceptical answer is that it is simply a lie. No cattle has ever been drained of it's blood.
anyways, i won't belive it until i see it...
I come from iceland, which has a much smaller population then most other countries, so obviously there is a lesser chance that anybody else has the same name as I. Still there is another Arnór Heiðar Sigurðsson in my country, and it's not that uncommon... so I'm wondering if there could simply be fewer names in iceland... hmmm?
I'm just posting for the fun, I don't even know if what I said makes any sense...:)

This stupid politician in Iceland has been bloggin since early '95. www.bjorn.is. It doesn't make him any better of a politician...
Here are a few suggestions:
Aha I see. :) ok
Actually, microphones, some instruments, old synths and stuff like that is very sensitive to RF noise too, so my point is still valid.

We need a good book on this subject

asm programmers fell powerful whenever they get to write anything... which happens very seldom :/
