Touche! I haven't seen that movie, and in fact I always forget that he made the movie. Perhaps his talent can be doubted just a little bit.
But everyone is entitled a bad movie now and then right?
No one can knock Tim Burton's eerie sense of genius. His movies are visually stunning and have always captured nuances and emotion that are desperately missing from other director's work.
What I particularly love about this remake is that 1) Depp replaces Wilder, whom I always loathed as Willy Wonka because he seemed more comical than deranged and 2) Burton always gets his actors to breath life into their characters, which results in the actors becoming the character, as opposed to what happens so frequently in movies which is that the character "wears" the actor and it never seems quite right.
That grin of Depp's; that right there is reason enough to want to be there opening night!
Here is the official definition of what it is, picture and all.
Basically, XM canned this because people were recording the stream and distributing it over the web. Since XM is a premium service, they didn't want their shows being disseminated over the web so they have cancelled this product and will most likely create something new that is less easy to record from, although I'm sure it won't be impossible for the 1337 hackers out there.
Acutally, this would could be quite useful considering that you can get xD chips of 1GB (maybe larger) that would be great to use if you maybe wanted to save a little on the battery life. However, that could get a bit pricey for most users. I might like to try something like that if I wasn't using my 1GB xD card for my camera that day and could then use it for an MP3 device. That could definitely be quite useful for a small nitch market.
I can just imagine sitting in a board meeting, company VP giving some web-based presentation of company growth and stock volume, when suddenly some S&M Gay Pr0n site pops up out of nowhere, with the boss displayed for everyone to see. Oh man, this is going to be awesome!
But I'm not so sure about some of your reasons. You seem to only value the "intelligent" and "professional" citizens of America, while type-casting the working class and younger demographics as comically bumbling members of society. I think some of your reasons are good, however, if you keep the demeaning statements out you make a much more solid argument.
One over-riding factor prevents this though and that is that in our Uber-capitalist, every-second-means-more-money-so-I-can't-value-any thing-more-than-the-dollar, economy people are very unwilling to close businesses for the sake of anything, especially something like a voting day. While your idea is noble, and I agree with it, the feasability of this action is entirely utopian.
"What we are trying to do with our major brands is to support them in every way possible," Marvel Studios chairman and CEO Avi Arad said.
This should actually read, "What we are trying to do with our major brands is whore them out to all suitors and make as much money as possible from them, thereby turning everyone's childhood memories against their pocket books, and allowing us to swim in the vast pools of money we have always dreamed of."
It seems that Google, Amazon, et. al. are really pushing the envelope when it comes to the availability of information. The ability to search through books digitally, regardless of copyright infringment, is just one more step of centralizing the computer as the sole portal of information. While libraries and other brick and mortar organizations are certainly not fading into oblivion anytime soon, it is really encouraging to see further social progression of the use and importance of computers. The more that the computer can become integrated into social functions, as opposed to the "novelty toy" it has been for so many of the populace since it's creation, the more we can expect to see even more creative innovations and developments of the PC itself.
From the article:
As cameras become a standard cell phone feature, we're becoming the most connected and instrumented people in history.
How are we merely becoming the most connected people? I don't remember seeing Caesar cruising through Rome, telling all his "boys" to "holla back at a brotha on my 2-Way, cause I'm a roll out to Cairo for a weekend dip in the Nile". Perhaps that is information that my public school budgets couldn't afford to dig up.
How long before this information can be used practically, and how does one go about doing this? My knowledge of the subject is little to none, but my curiosity is high considering cancer has struck my mother in the past. Any info would be appreciated.
I find this technology to be quite beneficial, especially when implemented in such a nice way. I can just imagine pulling this up on my PocketPC before I leave for the day, and being able to navigate my route home much more easily. If this could be expanded onto surface streets I believe it would help, somewhat, with the traffic problems because people could avoid the bad areas rather than contribute to them due to lack of information.
The joy of shooting a billboard-sized picture of Britney's latest pimple or a near nip-slip of Jessica and then jog over to a Starbucks and distribute it to the masses all while getting a mocha frap must be heaven. Why did I ever bother with a college degree when so much fun could have been had!
In the article the following quotes appear:
The agency is not interested in information on U.S. citizens, stresses Americas office director Bert Beaulieu. "We couldn't care less about individuals and people and companies," he said.
But that's not good enough for secrecy expert Steven Aftergood, who oversees a project on government secrecy for the Federation of American Scientists. "What it all boils down to is 'Trust us. Our intentions are good,'" he said.
Considering my trust of the "good intentions" of spy satellite division of the government isn't exactly at a stellar magnitude, I want to know who is overseeing this group? Are there any regulations on this group and if so, who creates those? I'm not concerned due to any paranoia, I just want to know how much authority this group really has.
Here is an article from C|Net about people who are doing that very thing.
The novelty factor of using a cell phone from 1985 is almost as long as the battery life would be for one of those phones. After that, you are just stuck with 10lbs of digital obscurity and some brain tumors to boot.
I agree with your concern about the disbursement of funds for national campaigns that are, for all intents and purposes, laughable to most American citizens. The Green Party must begin to formulate and strengthen at the local and statewide levels before it can begin full-scale national campaigns. While it might appear that a national campaign helps "get the word out" to the populace, it has proven to be extremely inefficient and almost farcical, in turn wasting vast sums of money that would could have much greater value in local and state elections.
I hope that Mr. Cobb can address this issue and help clarify the situation, if that is at all possible.
Thank you for taking questions. I am newly registered as a green party member, and am curious what sort of network exists within my community in Arizona? Where is a good place to get information about local events and gatherings?
Thank you for your time and best of luck with the campaign.

And since it's in Mexico it has to be hotter and spicer than the rest. It's the "Latin Explosion" incarnate!
"I'd like to dock my PDA into that cradle, if you know what I mean". Now, it's back to work :)
