I just received a new US passport. The passport itself has a blurb about being shielded when closed. Don't know if this is true or not, as I haven't checked it myself, but the covers feel like there's something in them.
It sometimes can be. Just like pacifism sometimes can be.
If someone is in the process of murdering my family, then I would call my act of violence against that person to stop it a moral act.
We haven't really established this. Of course, analogies are usually wrong and flawed, but I'm gonna take a shot at it (groan).
Lets say i give you a gun, and three options.
One is to shoot at an unarmed guy.
One is to shoot at a guy with a bat.
The Third is to shoot at a guy with a gun.
Each of these people is free to retaliate as you attempt to shoot them.
Which (in our fictitious nonsensical example you being an idiot who follows all directions, unlike real life) of these three would you choose?
Thinking about it, if the US civil war had ended in a tie, we would be looking at two separate countries. And, if the North had then tried to take the South fifty years later, it would be called an invasion.
Assuming, of course, they didn't succeed. If they did, they could call it anything they wanted, including a parade. That's the old winners writing history books thing.
I've talked to groups of people who wax philosophic about the joy of Castro, the fantastic medical services there, and how the US just hates him cuz he's such a swell fellow.
So, yes, there are people in the US who'd like nothing better than to collect his castoff cigars and plate them in bronze.
Do you honestly belive that the US is the big bad wolf who goes around eating children, while every other country tries its best, gosh darn it, to be true and good?
If you don't think ALL countries do their best to get their way, regardless of law, you're fooling yourself.
The "try their best to adhere to judgements" part actually made me laugh, in my own cynical way.
which works until you have some "trusted" person with your address gets a virus, or they use it to send you some email that they've forwarded to umpteen million people that you DON'T trust, or at some point your critical address just plain gets out in the wild.
I call bullshit. From a US standpoint, I remember when most products WEREN'T made in China, and if we went back to that we'd just have less "stuff", which we don't need anyway. TVs two sizes smaller, probably less cars, less constantly replaced gadgets... hey, this is starting to sound nice. It's not as if without China we'd all be living in caves writing on the walls.
"would never give an uneducated person a computer or an education"
Um,I know you don't "give" an education, but wouldn't educating the uneducated be a good idea? Then they could use that education to , in turn, improve themselves logically?
A notion was put forth the other day that services such as myspace do serve to make it easier for older pervs to simply make contact with younger, more naive people. Whereas in the past, He might have to know someone personally and an old guy seen with a younger person would be suspicious, all that emotional imprinting can go on online before a "meet" is arranged. It seems a valid argument to me.

IF you are in any way related to an attorney, you obviously do not deserve anything free.
Thank you for your time.
you should revise that to "Mostly illegal immigrants". Every legal immigrant I know pays auto insurance. That's a pet peeve of mine: there's a world of difference between legal and illegal immigration, and the two terms are often used interchangeably.

For some reason I read "browncoat" but thought "brownshirt". the Adolph Hitler Life Support Module just seems wrong.

The Fools! They should simply release the faster Betas, and they'd have a superior product! I gotta patent that right away...

It does have everything to do with people who like to bitch and moan and want something for nothing. Of course, they're also called lawyers (Rimshot)
America? ;)
How could you POSSIBLY ignore Hitler's Brain in the Jar Down in Argentina? He's been running this stuff for years.
Oddly enough, I had the same reaction as cayenne8 AND I voted for Obama. Go figure. But maybe I'm just old and bitter.

That last line stole my thought almost completely!

Your comment is, um, completely Def. Yo.
Who would have thought that so many food snobs are also geeks as well?
On a complete tangent, I don't see why people always see democracy = unfettered capitalism.

Sort of like my damn cousin in Nebraska, who keeps referring to California as "Cali". sigh.
I like that. "you guys". More like "all us guys. Gals too". Or are one party systems somehow nice?
