I can understand this point of view if you are part of that 1% who benefit from regressive taxation, but otherwise, I'd seriously go meet some inner-city working-poor people and tell them rich people deserve tax breaks. See what they say.

I love broadband. I play games....send files...etc. 3/4 of the time, I could get by with a 56k because I'm just writing email, looking for jobs, or reading Slashdot. I've read a lot of the above posts, and I don't think that the broadband adoption rate for US residents will go any higher than the percentage of people who live in big cities. Broadband just isn't available/profitable in rural areas, and it is too expensive for the inner city folk, at least here in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

GUI development isn't that bad in Visual Studio. In fact, it is easy as hell. With emulators like Wine available, it makes sense to develop the software with Visual Studio and its amazing debugging tools for WINDOWS and then use Wine to run it on Linux.

One could use the GTK and GNU-C to develop multi-platform software in the first place, but then you are dealing with the parent poster's problem of debugging on multi-platforms, not to mention that GTK sucks under Windows (Anyone else use GAIM?)

As far as the other browsers being such a small part of the market, their share will only grow as more people use Linux and OS X. Microsoft can make IE as proprietary as they want, but it won't matter at all if Apache is delivering the content.
