I would like a copy of the email you send out so that I can do the same. I would write one myself but it seems you have had some time to put together an informative and well written email and there is no sense in reinventing the wheel.
..but is he really making his system any less secure than any of the morons who were talked into forking out money for wireless hardware by thier local Best Buy salesperson?
Honestly, most of the laymans I know that have wireless have no idea how to secure it or what network security even is. So really he is no worse off than thousands of other users.
I like your idea(everything but the last comment about it being stupid) and would like to add one more benefit I don't think you pointed out, We would know who the spammers are! If we have to go to thier mail server to get the mail then we can grab them at the source. I like this idea alot.

Really? I seem to do just fine with this arrangement. In fact, I would say that I am more productive with open source programs than I ever was with proprietary software.
I have to agree.
I made the mistake of buying SuSE 8.1 Professional Edition. What a waste of money that was. The DVD Rom didn't work at all, and as foar as I can tell the extra 3 CD's you get are useless unless you know what is on them. I will be a long time Mandrake user I'm sure. It worked right out of the box (or download if you want to get technical). As soon as Mandrake 9.1 is out I will be buying a copy to help support it and joining the Mandrake Club.
I have to pipe up here. i have the unfortunate dute of working for MSN. The bastard child of Microsoft. I have noticed quite a few comments on this thread stating that Microsoft Tech Support Reps. have absolutely no clue what they are doing. I can't vouch for the folks doing actual windows support, but if the information flow to them from higher up is anything like the information flow I get here, I can honestly say that it isn't thier fault that they are clueless. Often times servers will go down around here (Especially those lovely passport servers) and we wont hear about it or see a posting for hours even days. I don't want to turn this into a rant about how poorly treated tech folks are. We already know. But just show a little kindness to the folks trying to help you with your problem. Usually the only reason they are clueless is the same reason you don't know what is going on. They haven't been given the information.
Oh yeah, and before some one flies off the handle that they have called MSN or Microsoft or whatever and been ran through a series of steps that they knew were useless, realize also that we have to follow procedures. If we don't then we lose our jobs. Simple as that. I would be rich if I had a penny for every time I knew, immidietly what the issue was, but was forced to follow basic troubleshooting steps before I could actually help someone. But hey, that's what keeps my kids fed. So again, take into consideration who it is you are actually talking to when you get on the horn with MSN or Microsoft. It's just an average joe like yourself, who probably doesn't have any more power to make your software/hardware/internet work than you do. Save what tips and tricks they stroe in thier cranium.
Anyway I'm done now...

Slashdot not getting enough hits today? This is like throwing a match into a warehouse that stores gasoline in cardboard boxes.
You could combite it with verifying a number from an image AND only let 1 IP address vote per day. That would make it a fairly solid system.
Or do what I do and not read the articles ;)
Maybe I will have a few less email to go through. 995 instead of 1000 spams.
.. so I wrote my own ;)

I can hardly wait for my Mandrake 10 ISO's to finish downloading (Only three more days to go!)
Nope, 4 including me (runs to attic to dust off old C64...)
I see another X-Box in your future.

Considering this is a link based site, that really doesn't surprise me. Besides who wants to brows MSN sites anyway :P
Haven't tested Mozilla on many p0rn sites. But since you have obviously done the research....
